I'm guessing single the most important sentence posted here while I slept tonight (the last sentence of #5331 manqiangrexue, Yesterday at 10:22 PM):

Jun 11, 2019

You sounded like this is a bad thing. We all know that the Huawei issue is no longer just about a private company. The US is using the entire federal government and is trying to enlist all its allies to destroy Huawei. Just remember the video clip of over a dozen US federal cabinet members lining up on stage and declared that they wanted to punish Huawei? And everywhere Trump goes, he pushes other governments to ban Huawei. Thats a whole lot of governments using their national resources trying to destroy a private company. So it's almost Huawei vs. all governments of US, AUS, Canada, Japan and a few others.

Now, why can the Chinese government not do something to save Huawei?

I don't know how many officials were there on stage, but a lot...

Anyways, I don't think anyone can dispute that the US government, along with at least a handful of other governments, is trying to destroy a private company owned by a private citizen. Why can't the Chinese government lend a hand?

Even without all this stuff, it's no issue at all. Airbus gets subsidies from France; Boeing, Ford, America's big banks from the US, etc... It's a given that any large company with positive influence on national capability has government support if they need it.

Exactly! the big 3 auto companies in Detroit got bailed out by the federal government. That was some major cash pumped into private companies by the federal government.

Think of all the ways an American gets taxed:

Federal income tax
State income tax
Local income tax
Property tax
Social security
Medicare
Sales tax
Tariffs
Tag/registration
Mandatory health insurance
Indirect taxes in the form of corporate tax
Capital gains

The government comes up with all sorts of ways just to make "tax" not seem like one big tax.

It's the same with subsidies, they use all sorts of ways to make it seem like it's not violating WTO rules. Everyone does it.

Company I work for gets grants from the government, subsidies, payout from recent bailout, ...

AND we get students who are trained with US government funding.

People try to simplify economics as "free market" or "command" economy but it always ends up as a hybrid. If things were so easy, we would have done it a long time ago. It just ain't.

It is time for China to ban GM in China.
