ZTQ-15 and PRC Light Tanks

A different armor package (note the slat armor). Perhaps an upgrade or for urban warfare?

If they scaled up this design to the size of a 99A MBT, the PLA would actually have a decent tank for once. None of that carousel volcano that is common to most Soviet tanks.

The biggest myth out of the Iraq war was that Soviet carousel loaders were unsafe. It's simply untrue, an urban legend. I happen to know an actual tank gunner who participated in Desert Storm. He told me that carousel loaders were impossible to hit because they sit very low. The loaders are also armored, so that even if the fighting compartment were penetrated, the chances of immediate ammo cook-off would be remote. But that's beside the point, since the crew would likely be dead or incapacitated in the event of such a breach. The poor performance of Iraqi T-72s came from poor ammo handling, with rounds being stowed outside the armored carousel, basically begging to be set off.

Would the low carousel still be safe from top-attack missiles or rockets fired from a downward angle?
Not sure about other conflicts, but is Desert Storm the only conflict in which the T-72s became volcanic death traps (I thought I saw a few videos of Syrian tanks doing the same thing)?

Again, these middle eastern customers of Soviet tanks are notorious for their poor ammo handling. Probably reasons are poor training and poor logistics. They try to carry as much ammo as possible, and since the autoloader can only hold 22 rounds, additional rounds are stored in the fighting compartment, a very bad practice.

As for top attack munitions, what's the point? If a mortar round or ATGM gets through the thin topside armor, then chances of crew survival is nil. I doubt the dead care about subsequent ammo cook-off.

But Russian T-72 and T-80 tanks suffered from the same problem in Grozny. Both Russian and Georgian T-72s also displayed it in 2008. Finally, Ukrainian T-64s have also shown similar results. I doubt all of them have the same poor ammunition handling as countries such as Iraq or Syria.

Is the L7 gun loud enough to pop your ear at a distance of 10-15 meters? I have feeling that the tank crews intended to prank the female journalist, but the prank could be dangerous. Anyway military guys have all sorts of over-the-top pranks.
