would be great to see 6 x Z8L simultaneously taking off from Type 075 LHD

rotors on and ready to roll

I wonder if Z8L will fit into the Type 071 LPD hanger ?

anyone do the dimensions ?

Here is the dimension of the ATV via SAR

I believe the manufacturer is Jialing Equipment Co. Below is some details released during the 2012 Beijing International Emergency Rescue Expo:
length: 3.9 m
height: 1.8 m
width: 1.8 m
engine: 1.4 Liter inline four diesel
speed: 60 kph (max.)
empty weight: 1.7 tonne
payload: 1.1 tonne (max.)
crew: 6 including driver
The vehicle can fit inside the cargo bay of Z-8 or Mil-171. An outboard motor can be installed quickly on the back to increase mobilities over water.

One question, why do PLA use Z-8L designation instead of a whole name not related to Z-8? IMO the new helo already have enough difference to the Z-8 baseline to justify a new designation.

Also, for me it looks like combination of AW101 Merlin powertrain with S-92 body and side sponson, even if its lineage comes from Z-8

I definitely like this design and they have done a good job with it

it got the Chinese feel to it and has evolved from the old Frelon design

unlike Z20 which is a total shameless copy cat and just hurts my eyes

That's sounds very Chinese American (oversea Chinese). The truth is, real Chinese people don't give a damn about what these look like, they only care if these performs according to requirement.

To both I say Form follows function. Look at any 3 engine helicopter and you will see by necessity similarity.
in the cabin shapes again form follows function.
Z20 looks the way it does as if you want to build a chopper in that class for that role you end up looking the way it does. Don’t believe me @asif iqbal Bell 214ST, KA60, Westland Augusta AW189, Bell V280 even the Boeing Vertol YUH61 bid. It’s form following function. The main driver being the landing gear.

Therefore, I would say to whoever wants to throw insult at me (or Chinese/China in general) for Z20 being a "shameless copy cat": came at me, fool, I'm loving it! You insult is worth how many points of actual damage? Well, we are not feeling any. While at the same time, the PLA is enjoying the benefit of having this magnificent new piece of equipment.

Note: What I am about to say may sound a little bit offensive, but I don't have any intention to offend.

I assume Asif is a male of Pakistani origin. So culturally speaking, asif is of the muslim world. Well, I would say that compare to China, the Muslim World is comparatively young civilization. So Muslims has this very ascetic, proud and pure-hearted kind of youthful demeanor to them, while Chinese is more of a rejuvenated Daoist immortal kind of cunning spirit (one that looks very young and new, but actually retained an extremely old consciousness). Muslims can't handle having to lay low and endure, what in our Chinese culture called "蛰伏" (roughly translate to hibernating).

Muslims are like war horses, they can't bear to suffer any insult, injustice or humiliation. They are kinda like Japanese, so easily overwhelmed by any little feelings of shame. If you put it upon them, they will fight to the death, even if it means a one-sided slaughter against them. So, for a powerful enemy who wants to destroy an Islamic population, all they need is to provoke them. Goaded into vengeful rage, Muslims will throw all they have into the enemy, which play right into their enemy's hands.

Chinese, on the other hands, were only like that way back in the Shang and Zhou dynasties (1600BC to 256BC). The people of the Muslim world did have a extremely long history, but they didn't inherit many of those culture, teachings and experiences, because their identity (the one which the people identify with) keep on changing. But for Chinese, the identity has always been the same.

There you go, I explained it in my own way. Chinese culture of the current era has a lot influence from Scholar/General Zeng Guofan (1811 -1872). His idea of "弃圆求缺" (abandon the pursuit for perfection and completeness, and instead aiming for a continued state of discontent and incompleteness). Chinese people don't care about taking and hording everything little high-ground simply for boasting. The Chinese psyche strive to staying in a balance state, in which they have both something to feel good about and something that reminds them of their shortcomings and vulnerabilities.
Hi jimmyjames30x30,

I know these is not proper reply for these particular thread, so mod pls feel free to change it.
well said, even those oversea chinese, with the discrimination impose on them were able to adapt and still retain their identity, We are human after all, we have emotion, but we are able to see the overall picture. All this talk of war is so just that , Talk , but after assessing the situation, we just put up our sleeve and work to overcome it, the more we complain, the more obvious our weakness are. again sorry for my rant.
