Are helicopters part of the Chinese airforce? I once read that under American doctrine, to reduce redundancy, helicopters usage is restricted to the Army and winged aircraft for the navy and airforce. Is the Chinese doctrine different here?

That’s not even the American doctrine. There are no limits on helicopters being used by any of the American armed forces branches.

PLAAF do have helicopters in their possession, Z9, Z10K and Z8K. Z8K is used for transportation of PLAAF airborne paratroopers while Z10K is used for escorts of Z8K as well as airbase parameter patrol.

Ah sorry, I'm mistaken, the limit is not on helicopters being used, but on the roles air assets should play in American armed forces branches. I was mostly thinking of the Key West Agreement, where it's agreed that the Army may only use air assets for recon and evacuations. So Z-10s would not be under Army jurisdiction.

With that said, maybe strike helicopters like Z-10s should be part of the Army's arsenal and not the Air Force, lol. Since they are for striking ground targets like tanks and they fly at lower altitudes than fixed wing aircrafts.

Pretty sure they're part of the PLAGF alongside their Z-19 reconnaissance counterparts...
