Thanks to US and Canadian effort to delay or stop the development of WZ10 by cancelling engine contract, the Engineers in China had to double their effort to perfect the engine of WZ9 to be used in WZ10. Their effort pay off. Though there is small delay on development of WZ10 the resulting helicopter is 100% Chinese. It is now out of western interference. Apart from savings and on foreign exchange, more Chinese workers take part to produce these helicopters (more jobs). Young Chinese engineer benefited most in both experience and job opportunities. Thanks Canada. Thanks USA. Salute form China - THANKS. THANKS THANKS. God - you people are so good to China. Long live arms embargo. Arm embargo is really working for China especially for bright young Chinese.

In its early stage prototype it was so, it used the P&W Canada's flagship model, the PT6C series. But the extensive redesigns spotted on these initial batch (pre-production perhaps?) including the vastly different engine compartment, it's now suggested that the domestic engine WZ-9 is being used. And since WZ-9 is rather underpowered, the redesigns were geared to lower the weight of the airframe, with as little sacrifice on performance as possible.

the rotor head and the gear box was benefited from Eurocopter's partnership in china.

Indirectly related to the WZ-10, this picture shows an HJ-10 missile on a WZ-9 helicopter. I assume it's the HJ-10 cause no other missile in the PLA inventory or under development which we know about has that kind of seeker head and forward body.

I think this picture shows the said missile being fired, again because the colour corresponds to the one above, and it doesn't look like TY-90, there's no rocket pod on the wing and no tube for HJ-8/9. But it's so blurry it's kinda hard to tell

I think it looks fairly similar.

Interesting that it seems to be only entering service now. Maybe the initial models weren't good enough for the PLA and they upped the specs a little, or something.

EDIT: Actually wait come to think of it I have no idea what missile the first picture shows. I thought it was HJ-10, but obviously it's not right as the missile's forward body has a smaller diameter than the rest and it fits perfectly onto the WZ-9's pylon. So yeah, awks.
EDIT again: lolz joax =GT just posted a set of photos clearly showing that the missile is the HJ-10. for anyone who read all the way here and still cares. :D

Looks like some new stuff on the WZ-10. Something above the nose and above the pilot. Also looks like extended tail. I know that angle isn't good but other pics looks like there something different with the tail.
