I wasn't even aware there was a 'competition' for an attack helicopter. I am a bit skeptical how it stacks up against the Z-10 though, which is a purpose built attack helicopter compared to the Z-19 which looks a tad lighter than the Z-10. I think thought that the Z-19 would be a good replacement for the Z-9WA in the light attack role.

Chinese attack helixopters have designation of WZ-..., if the new helicopter is officially designated as Z-19, instead of WZ-19, it may be a armed (but not as dedicated as WZ-10) Observation light helicopter with attack capability against target of oppoturnity, much like the OH series obeservation chopper of USA.

Well to be fair Challenges' photo does feature many similarities to the description which Huitong gives - i.e: same rear as your standard WZ-9...

I think this so called Z-19 will probably act as a supplement to the WZ-9 and WZ-10 when it's finished; from Challenges' picture, it has a dedicated underslung gun. I wonder how many hard points it has.
Also, if the Z-19 is similar to the WZ-9 then it should be capable of being modified for shipboard operations (as opposed to the WZ-10 where a much more arduous process will have to take place).

Hopefully the WZ-10 is not canned for the Z-19 though... I don't like the sound of this "competing"...

Z19 would be a 4.5-5 ton class chopper if indeed originated from Dauphin per. online speculations, particularly if powered by Arriel still. I don't think that will pose any threat to 7 ton class Z10.*

It might even end up with an anti-helo variant, armed with AAMs to take down hostile attack helos on the field. Meanwhile the anti-surface role is better left to the heavier Z10.

Z-19 first appear in the web back in March 25th,2001, five grainy picture show Z-19 like WZ-10 ,unlike Apache and tiger AH,has retractable wheel.
this allow wider +firing angle for external gun mount.
there's possible mast mounting sight or longbow type radar will be install.
hope it's still there.
