The Mi-28 hasn't really done much in the SMO since Feb 2022 whereas the KA-52 has done all the heavy lifting. We should reverse engineer the latter and start from there given our lack of experience in heavy attack helicopters.

The days of reverse engineering is mostly gone by now. China should innovate based on experience on Z10 and Z20, and take lessons on real battlefields in Ukraine. Heavy lifting engine is not a problem as WZ-10 engine used on Z20 is readily available.

Thinking beyond KA-52, innovate on information sharing, control of swarm drones by helicopter pilot/co-pilot, better self-protection with heavy armor/sensor/ECm/decoy etc.

KA-52 is effective but it is fighting a 20th century war in 2022/2023. China's next generation heavy attack heleicopter should be designed for 21st century warfare.

From their wording we can expect something niche and unconventional, unlike Z-10. I doubt it will be a heavy type. Z-10 besides armor already carry as much ammo as a Apache.

Apache carries 1200 30mm round which Z-10 lack in both ammo count and caliber.

You should not underestimate sustained gunship presence even in a 21st century war. During many wargames PLA conducted they find Z-10 frequently run out of ammo and are forced to end their support for ground troops before they even spend half of their time on target.

Pardon if this was posted before. I was reading comments on it in other articles and like how Americans think the F-22 and J-20 look alike, they somehow think this looks like an Osprey aka stolen from them.

Out of all the Fifth Gen fighters currently in service/development, J-20 is literally the one that looks the least like the F-22.
