While the discussion is still on the engines and thrust to weight ratio, I came across this data from twitter: it claims WZ 16 is in service with Z 10ME.

A: 轴9本身潜力不小，使用中可以逐步发挥潜力，不一定非得等改进型出来，特别是FADEC，放宽限制相对容易。

Q:涡轴9能发展到之前试飞时使用的PT6水平吗
A: 有点难，涡轴9是第一型完全自主研发的发动机，研制中考虑到国内实际工业水平，有些技术偏保守，气动参数参照MTR390数据，但使用的材料工艺什么的并没有MTR390的高，608自己有时也把轴9当成二代半，据说为了通过严格的测试还调低了参数，在使用中根据逐步放开，但完全迷到三代水平要到轴9的某个改型，前段时间出现的AES1000估计是这个改型的降功率提可靠性的民用版，但军用功率估计也达不到1400kw

Q: 现在批量生产的涡轴9功率不会只是停留在900多kw的水平吧？
A: 这个不清楚，实际上涡轴发动机的功率飞机上测君了，都是台架上测的然后我们换算到标准工况下功率给用户，飞行员主要看发动机转速表参数和几个温度压力参数。而且我们一般说的设计最大功率是大约是100%换算转速，最大功率随转速变化有一条曲线，在发动机上有许多附件进行调节，FADEC调节就更方便了，新发动机使用经验少保险起见，转速可能调到98%，使用一段时间后根据使用经验上调转速，最大功率自然上升。有可能同一台发动机新出厂时15S应急功率940kw，大修后回来己经是1000kw了。

据可靠消息，2016年以后开始提供的9都是接近1100kW的。

• WZ-9 is the first Chinese aeroengine to have FADEC
• It was given design certification in 2010 after undergoing 7000 hours of ground tests and 1000 hours of flight tests
• The potential of the WZ-9's design is high and expansion of the permissible flight envelope is easy with FADEC; just input higher values into the computer
• The WZ-9 is the first engine China developed completely from scratch, the second is the WS-15
• Taking into account China's relative backwardness at the time, the initial projected performance parameters were set very conservatively
• The operating parameters of the MTR390 were used as a baseline for the WZ-9 but the latter cannot match the former in materials quality
• The WZ-9 is referred to by its designers as a 2.5th generation turboshaft and a bump to 3rd generation can be achieved by future variants of the WZ-9
• The AES1000, a civilian engine promoted at Zhuhai, is probably a WZ-9 that was downrated to increase reliability
• Nominal power values are given for 100% RPM but the PLA often only take their engines to a lower RPM, say 98%, until the engine is mature
• WZ-9s supplied since 2016 have a maximum power of close to 1100 kW, some 200 kW higher than the early WZ-9s with their 900 kW

so now we are going to hopefully see a naval helicopter brigade formed just like the land based army aviation brigades

China needs at least 2 full strength rotary wing brigades for the navy

so many ships and decks hardly any helicopters

have no idea why the army gets so many units yet navy who actually needs them is neglected
