I don't think it was ever designed to carry 16 ATGMs it was always meant at this point to mix missiles and rockets. Nor do i think at this stage was it ever meant to have a 30mm cannon.
Nor do I believe it to be under powered. I think some people are just comparing the Z10 to the wrong western designs. Its meant I feel to compare to the A129. It bares a striking resemblance to that bird and compares well. Also the PLA at one time evaluated the Mangusta and may have set its parameters around it. Now moving up engines I do think is a real program for Z10 but I suspect part of a move to integrate a a longbow type radar and upgraded sensor suite. This is still the pla's first attack chopper they likely played it conservative in order to ensure it worked and now will start pushing the envelope. Its a development roadmap you crawl before you walk you walk before you run.

I agree with most of yr statement but a fair comparison of WZ-10 will be together with Euro Tiger. Both are around 6 to 7 tons and has almost the same power output. A-129 is consider a light attack helo of around 4-5tons.

While apache and Mi-28 are both consider heavy weight attack helo of 10tons with much powerful engine but that does not equal them being more powerful than WZ-10 or Euro Tiger as the power engine needs to compensate the additional 3 to 4tons of additional weight..

there is nothing wrong with putting a more powerful engine than WZ-9 on Z-10. That would allow for more protections and greater payload. Once WZ-16 goes into mass production, it will definitely be an option for Z-10.

Agree there is nothing wrong with putting more powerful engine. But there is definitely something wrong if misinformation start spreading about WZ-10 attack helo underpower on its current configuration without substantial backing. I will called that as smearing.

Chief designer of WZ-10 never mention anything about his birdie underpower and performance underpar instead he ranks it as top 3 attack helo in the world and willing to back his words with his chopper performance in Zuhai 2012 airshow and Tianjin Airshow 2013 recently.

Or probably someone is going to step in and claim he knows more than the chief designer of WZ-10 and insist current WZ-10 being underpowered and can back his words with proof?

has any of the chief designers ever said their system is under powered? What is he suppose to say? Z-10 is a weak little bird with no power?

Also, asif's point certainly isn't smearing. He has consistently been very supportive of the platform. I think we can agree that you two have a difference of opinion here and move on.

Tphuang, are you implying a chief engineer who spend 12 years develop WZ-10 is lying? And you look down on his achievement? Show some respect to this dedicated people. I will doubt his words if he keep his bird in hangar without showing its performance to the public but its not. A 6/7tons helo making sharp turn , fast reacting spinning and a full loop hardly exhibit any sight of underpowered.

As for asif, I just stand to correct his misinformation. This nonsense about WZ-10 underpowered is first started from some small rumour and was quickly pick up by western media as the main point. But it turn out to be false unless someone has substantial proof.

I don't think tp is implying that the chief designer is lying. Like you said the chief never said or promised anything (good nor bad) in regards to the powerband of the helicopter so how can anyone be implying anything?
I think all he was saying is while the WZ-10 MAY have adequate power in its present form, it doesn't hurt to have MORE power. That's all.
