Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

saw some new up close shot of the new submarine's sail and tail today. They are definitely some real modifications to it, but the rest of the sub seemt o have no significant changes based on these new photos, so looks like i was wrong about this being a new class.

We will have to wait and hear what the performance is, particularly if there is AIP enhancement...but it seems to me that the Chinese are the ones who are producing a very much improved Kilo class that is in service and in some numbers before the Russians get there themselves.

I view the entire Yuan class production as a significant improvement on the Kilo class boats that the PLAN got from Russia...and they continue to improve on them. And fairing far better than the attempt the Russians have made with the Lada class.

But that's just my opinion.

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

I wouldn't mind an AIP enhancement but they are present on all other yuans as well I believe, so it isn't adding dramatically new capability.

But there are rumours the redesigned mast may feature a mast sonar. Also, the overall submarine looks more modern and in line with top of the line existing subs as well.

I don't know, double hull, the hump, the wider body and similar larger size for diesel sub. Yuan is probably in the same ball park as kilo when it comes to noise level, but should have better electronics/combat system.
