Yuan Class AIP & Kilo Submarine Thread

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

Well, to hazard a guess, looking at where they are located, they are simply there to help keep people/workers safe. To keep them and their tools from falling off the platforms onto the sub or into the water when they are working.

Thanks Jeff! I also was wondering does it has to do with the shape and material of the submarine that makes them more slippy to work on as well?

Ok Jeff, stupid question here. Why are there so many safety nets around during construction of submarines? I'm sure these nets are also fire proof at least during welding as well?

Safety records are very important to heavy industry contractors. If you're the operator and you want to hire contractors to work at a site, you'd look at their safety records, insurance, certifications, etc.

i.e. if I were the operator of a shipyard, I'd be less inclined to hire contractors with a record of workers falling into the ocean.

Does anyone know how happy the Chinese are with their Kilo's vis a vis their Yuans?

I've read several times that they share some tech, but haven't seen any feedback on how well one performs relative to the other... Any clues?

so eight yuans in one base? which base is that? one of the three plan's fleets? does it mean that all three fleets will receive 8 yuans at some point? it would appear that the new variant (039c?) came after 12 or so yuans (039b). am i correct?

Theses are brand new. This is one of the eight Yuans at the base. Then again, without a pennant number, you really can't tell them apart.
