would MLRS and PGMs be a deterrent force in the taiwan strait against carrier group?

Hitting a moving warship with a MRLS rocket would be far harder than using a ballistic missile, and I have my doubts about the latter.

The long range MRLS would probably be meant as a poor man's ballistic missile for mass saturation attacks on Taiwanese military targets (they would also overwhelm Taiwan's ABM capabilities).

I didn't say it's moving. Pls read my beginning thread again.
Both the Kitty hawks incidence and 1996 missile crisis, the USN carrier group had stopped and stationed.

The Kitty Hawk never stopped during that trip. Remember the seas had stormy weather and it needed to get away from that. Also the Shenzhen and the Song was on their way to Japan, the Song acting as escort and the Shenzhen was on an official visit there. So naturally the Kitty Hawk, which is also on its way to Japan, would share a parallel course.

In battle scenario, if the carrier group detect a group of subs lurking in front, would they stop and ready for battle station or they still charge ahead regardless?

TAIPEI — A Chinese attack submarine and destroyer shadowed U.S. warships in November in the Taiwan Strait, sparking a 28-hour standoff that brought the group to a battle-ready halt in the tense waters, a report in a Taiwan daily said Tuesday.

The confrontation occurred as the Navy aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk and other ships in its battle group were heading back to Japan following China’s sudden cancellation of a long-scheduled holiday port call in Hong Kong, the China Times said, citing U.S. military sources.

The carrier strike group encountered Chinese destroyer Shenzhen and a Song-class sub in the strait on Nov. 23, causing the group to halt and ready for battle, as the Chinese vessels also stopped amid the 28-hour confrontation, the Chinese-language daily reported.

The carrier would have to turn around while the destroyer screen may try to engage the subs. The carrier may launch some airraft and helicopters to assist finding and sinking the subs.

actually I just want to know if the USN carrier is going in Strait if there's a conflict. If they don't then it doesn't matter..

They won't. They will likely stay on the east side of Taiwan where the island itself would serve as a barrier.

^ then that's not going to help taiwan much. Taiwan has no chance to face a full assault from PLA alone.

No, they can send aircraft over the island and into the straits. Don't forget the range of the aircraft it can carry.

But the PLA's SAM's range cover all the way to east shore of Taiwan. If USN planes come into Strait, they are within firing range. The F-18s will have tough time to elude the newer SAMs.

Yes, but the SAM range would be at maximum range, which is not very useful, since the aircraft could evade them. You have to rely on the targets being right over the straits itself.
