would MLRS and PGMs be a deterrent force in the taiwan strait against carrier group?

Check out the earlier this yr, the kitty Hawk ventured into the taiwan strait and confronted with a Song and Shenzhen destroyer, they stood more than 24 hrs standstill..
If the taiwan conflict break out, I would think US carrier group would come to the rescue and come near the strait.

But the strait is narrow. As we know MLRS like the WS-2 rockets can reach 150miles all the way to Taiwan. And Plane from the coast of China can drop PGMs which will glide another 60 to 70 miles to the targets.

If the carrier group is stationary like the Kitty Hawk incidence stood there more than 24 hrs, We know the carrier defensive system can defend missiles but what about massive amount of MLRS and PGMs??

A US carrier would never stay stationary on the Taiwan Strait in a wartime scenario. It would not even go inside the Taiwan Strait.

then why the PLA bother to train to bloc the USN coming to the rescue? If USN doesn't come into the strait how come it direct assit in the fighting?

1996 it did during the missile crisis.

1996 was no actual war, so the US put the carrier into the strait as a strong show of force.
To prevent the US (a CSG) from intervening in a Strait scenario, PLAN would not only have to keep it out of the strait, but perhaps 200+nm away from the Island. That would require a really large blockade.

^ /wo US coming into eastern side, then Taiwan would fall. CHina can achieve air superioirty and its missiles, MLRS, PGMs will flatten taiwan east coast defense and landing after that.

MLRS rockets aren't designed to sink warships, so at most you might do some damage above-deck, but that's about it.

The power of USN is not represented by 1 carrier or battle group. It's backed by the fact that you could sink 1 today and they can send 3 more tomorrow, and easily replace whatever you sunk or shot down.

A damaged ship is just a crippled man.

OMG, if I can trade some rockets and PGMs for 1 of your carrier group. Then I have shake hand /w you and say "Nice doing business /w you".

If you can replace a carrier easily, then I could replace my spent rockets/PGMs even more easily. :)

I am still searching for answer, if US wouldn't want enter the strait, then what's the big fuss from PLA about denial of US fleet using Subs, developing ASBM and all those hooplas.

Those things all serve to ensure that PLAN assets can operate where necessary without interference by USN units.

Hitting a moving warship with a MRLS rocket would be far harder than using a ballistic missile, and I have my doubts about the latter.

The long range MRLS would probably be meant as a poor man's ballistic missile for mass saturation attacks on Taiwanese military targets (they would also overwhelm Taiwan's ABM capabilities).
