lol, it's absolutely comical that EU politicians think EU countries should "stick together and watch out for each other", when each country's elected officials need to take care of their own citizens.

populists movement in each country will view this kind of comments very suspiciously.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says "Russia is blackmailing us" "To make it through the winter in case of full disruption of Russian gas [...] we have to reduce our consumption" She proposes: A) 15% cut in demand, and B) that all EU countries share gas flows

It should surprise no one that China is not going to just rely on Russian for NG supplies.

The big news is that Nord stream restarted today, even if at lower volume than usual.

Gotta spend that toilet paper currency somewhere. At least with this purchase we are going to get real resources instead of the trillions of IOUs we hold now
It's good politically to have smaller trade deficit. As long as there is enough capacity from Russian side in the event and from coal plants in the event of a blockade, it makes sense to diversify suppliers.

EU covid response has shown there is no solidarity behind the media facade. First half of 2020 was a battle royal for mask, tests and PPE. Im sure the daggers are longer and sharper when it comes to European countries future of their own industrial sectors..

Interesting story here. Algeria delegation heading to China to convince their funding and maybe expertise in building a trans-Sahara pipeline from central Arica to Algeria. This would be huge for Algeria economy and should be more environmental than the longer gas pipeline via coast of Africa.

As a whole, Algeria is getting close to China. This would be another step in that direction.
