Why China doesn't purchase weapons from Asian countries

Your comment makes me laugh. Arms industry isn't just tech access and transfer. Can Japan and Korea make indigenous turbofan engine? BVR missile? Stealth fighter? ICBM? SSBN? ASAT? C4ISR?

To start off, for air-to-air BVR missiles, Japan's Mitsubishi AAM-4 has longer range and data link compared to PLAAF's PL-12. As far as stealth fighter goes, I don't remember PLA has ever made any stealth fighter. Both Japan and Korea have already confirmed their stealth fighter programs (ATD-X and KFX). While Japan have already showed us the full scale model of their stealth fighter and plans to have test flight as soon as 2011, I haven't heard nor seen anything solid about the J-XX program from the PLAAF's side. Why would Japan want ICBM when they're not even allowed to have nukes, I'm pretty sure they can come up with their own ICBM design very quickly if they want to, considering their advanced rocket technology. PLA can produce large amount of military equipment at cheaper costs, but I really don't see how China's military industry has higher quality than Japan or even Korea's.

Whatever quality differences between Chinese hardware and Japanese/Korean equivalents will grow smaller over time to the point it becomes insignificant, making it a non-issue, while the ability to build in greater quantities grows concurrently.

So we can buy some good old SSBN nuclear submarines and some SSN attack nuclear subs from other Asian countries.

We already have the best army hardware in Asia, so why do we need to buy. If they have better, we will just build a better one for ourselves.

We are the only country in Asia that builds military jet engine with indigenous design and performs well, and you want us to buy from other Asian countries?

Funny, having access to Western technology doesnt make the nation the finest country. South Korea nor Japan are even on par with China's technology level, few examples domestic fighters, awacs, aam, engines, helicopter, destroyers, frigates, ssk, ssn/ssbn, cruise missle, srbm, mrbm, icbm, space technology, anti-sat, soon their own GPS. Japan nor Korea maybe can make some of these but not all.

Reason people doubt China is cause most technology specifications are hidden and people assume that China technology is still based largly on soviet era ones.

J-10 lets say some equivalance to Lavi was a direct competition to F-16 in performance, capability, etc....So China doesnt need to dream of F-16/F-15, AH-64. China has J-10 to compete with F-16, J-11 for F-15 (as Su-27 is basically F-15 most feared platform). What you guys mean Z-10 isn't match for AH-64, sure its electronics maybe couple years behind but when it comes mobility and firepower China never lacks in these fields.

I would still believe China will buy western weapons and use western technologies if the western nations would allow China to do so. Considering PLA are seriously behind in some crucial areas such as anti-submarine warfare, strategic bomber, heavy transport planes, data links etc... Their conventional submarine technologies are still behind countries such as Germany and Japan, and they suffer from problems in their indigenous jet engines, still lacks capability to build larger planes... If PLA just purely rely on their own development programs I highly doubt they would ever catch up the west, the technology gap would only grow wider. That's why I think the PLA are hiding so many stats to cover up the fact that their military industry is less advanced than it seems.

The PLA is working wonders with it's modernization programs and the Chinese people are justifiably proud of the results. The time is coming, within a generation or so, when Chinese equipment will equal the quality and tech-level of Japan and S.Korea and even Europe.
Within another couple generations, China will begin catching up with America, IF...they drastically increase defense research and defense procurement spending.
For the present: The J-10 appears to be a rough equivilant to the F-16. However, the USAF owns almost 1,500 F-16s and has moved on to it's replacement, the F-35. The J-11 is not equal to the F-15E Strike Eagle, of which the USAF has several hundred. Again, America has already introduced the F-15's successor, the F-22.
To match American military technology, China will have to increase its military research spending and defense acquisition budgets by several magnitudes. (USA military spending: $500 billion, PRC military spending: $50 billion.)
The USA has led world military spending every year since the early 1940s. When China has spent several generations matching American spending and research, China will catch up with America.
In the meantime, China's equipment is good enough to equip the world's largest military and it is getting better. It does not match Japanese quality, but will soon.

I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement like that because Japan and China only produce the same pieces of equipment in a few areas. In diesel electric submarines, some electronics, and a few other areas (maybe MBTs, both Chinese and Japanese current-gen MBTs are untested) Japan is ahead of China. But they are even in aircraft technology (J-10 to F-2 is a very close match-up) and China far outpaces Japan in other areas such as AFVs other than MBTs, space, nuclear subs and missile technology. So in some areas, yes, Japan outpaces China. But China has a broader base of technology. This is, as I'm sure you know, partially because Japan has certain restrictions on what weapons it can produce.

You are under the weird impression that Singapore can actually sell them to China.

Which is shall we say somewhat divorced from reality.
to sell no,Buttttt.....China's intelligence services could penetrate easier Singapore security services (than American ones) and steal the secrets of those masterpieces (F-15,F-16,AH-64 etccc..)the same is for Japan,S.Korea,Taiwan,Thailand,Indonesia,Greece (ups!!:china:...)

It will be qualified the Chinese industry from its experience with the J-10 to carry out a modernization to the F-16 Venezuelans?

Jeez, a military person mouths of about stealth program saying they have one big deal. China doesn't claim or give any details of any of their projects until its well into its development or even after production. They don't claim things like other countries do. Few examples, J-10, Yuan, Anti-Sat, destroyers, etc...even till now after J-10 has been officialy released their is still no specifications on it.

So if your a true analyzer of Chinese military hardware, you dont wait for information, data or annoucment to slap a big statement on your forehead saying we have this and this....

About the budget, China is a peacful country, Check the history on this. They dont want to fight nor go to war, but the only reason you see them with modernisation and accelerated development. Is because other nations are growing so naturally they need to grow to protect themselves from history disaster such as prior decades.

You have no credible evidence that Japans AAM are better then China's, reason is that China didn't give any crucial specifcations or demonstrations of its AAM (PL-12).

Turbofan is soon in mass production so, dont know what your talking about here. F-2 is exact copy of F-16 but an expensive copy.

China has had about 10-20years of enough money to finance its military and US as had x3 as much time and money.
