Well we all know that the shutdown showdown has ended. Although worthy of WTF news. This seems more suited a Stenographer had to be dragged out of the house

Why do I got a hunch that this particular stenographer had smoked some serious weed before her rant...? Luckily she didn't take bathing salt or we'd have a World War Z re-enactment event instead!

Dear Mr. Mike Babchik of Man Banter,

You thought you were having fun last month at New York Comic Con when you and your film crew gained access to the convention using your job credentials at SiriusXM Radio. You thought this would be a great opportunity to provide footage for your YouTube show (now defunct, thankfully). You thought it would make great television to pull me aside, to put your mic in my face, to drive your camera's light in my eyes and to ask if you could buy me.

You thought it was just a joke when you said you wanted to buy an umbrella with an Asian girl -- because I was holding a parasol.

You thought you were being clever by mistaking me for a geisha girl, like the many submissive, diminutive women you've seen on TV or on the Internet or in movies.

You thought that because I was small and female and Asian, it gave you the right to ridicule my existence.

Well, this letter isn't for your sake, Mr. Babchik, but for the sake of my childhood, where everyone only told me one story about being a Vietnamese woman, a woman like me. The nasal screech of “Me love you long time!” set to a rap beat. Miss Saigon's little Kim forever pining after her American solider to save her. Robert Olen Butler won a Pulitzer for writing stories about war refugees, but also wrote a book where a Vietnamese – American boy thought his absent mother must be “whoring herself up and down the East Coast.” In the movies, Chris Farley got attacked by the “Saigon whore that bit his nose off” but I was the only one who didn't laugh.

This is what it means to be Vietnamese and to be female in the United States. This is also what it means to be an Asian woman in the eyes of many: sexed up and downtrodden and pitiful and there for someone else's amusement.

This letter isn't for your sake, Mr. Babchik, but for the sake of my mother and my aunts and my grandmothers and my cousins. My family comes from a country you probably have never seen outside of Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. My family is from the city of Saigon.

My grandmothers moved to Saigon when they were young mothers and helped save their families from marching death. They never shot themselves like Kim did in order to give their children a better life.

My mother was born in Saigon. She never walked the streets in front of American soldiers, asking for sucky-sucky for a fifty.

My father's sisters lived in Saigon. They went to the United States and got PhDs because my grandfather wanted to give them the best education possible (you probably thought Vietnamese women are all rice farmers when we aren't being whores).

One of my aunties was one of the last people to leave Saigon. She jumped aboard the final departing helicopter, clinging to the landing skids until they could pull her inside.

This is what it means to be a Vietnamese woman to me: to be brave and strong and intelligent and able to fight to maintain her dignity.

This letter isn't for your sake, Mr. Babchik, but for the sake of so many women who look like me and suffer from actions that take away our humanity in your eyes. You aren't there when I avoid the girls at conventions who play at geisha in mini kimono robes and paste caked on their pale faces. You aren't there when my younger sister wonders if she is loved for who she is and not for what she represents. You aren't there when I am comforting my friend as she sobs about the man who made her suck his cock though she didn't want to.

I accepted an apology representatives from Man Banter made in your name, Mr. Babchik: a remorseful cry from bullies who knew they have been caught. But your colleagues' panicked emails will not make me accept the idea that you could buy me as a cheap joke, because so many of my fellow Asian sisters live their lives with the fear that they are nothing but things to be sold and used and discarded.

This notion cycles itself over and over again in today's culture, like loops of film spinning on a reel, like a rap song on repeat. These stories get repeated until they snowball into an illusion of truth that crushes living hearts and bodies and spirits beneath their weight.

I am writing this letter to tell this to you, Mr. Babchik, and everyone who thinks like you: I will not be bought by your remorse or your shame-filled Internet silence or your own fleeced sense of self-preservation after you said those words to me.

Not because the costs are too high.

But because I was never for sale.

***

Re: WTF?! News

It was bad enough when people did this because they were participating in a gang initiation. Now they're doing this for fun!

Knockout game is killing innocent civilians

THE resurgence of a dangerously violent street game that targets innocent bystanders has left people dead and others fearing for their lives.

The aim of the game, known as Knockout, is to approach an unsuspecting passerby and punch them so powerfully they are knocked unconscious. The attacks are violent, deliberate and in some cases, fatal.

Why? Simply "for the fun of it," said one teenage participant.

"They think it's funny," said another.

"They just go, boom, when it's the right time and the right place.

"It could be anybody, it could be a mother with her children. It's a macho thing."

The game first surfaced in New York City several years ago and after a short lull, a number of recent attacks are proving it's back, as violent as ever.

Police are keen to end the game once and for all, but are concerned it's a growing trend among bored teens

Three have been killed in the last two years alone.

Seven attacks have been reported in New York, while one of the most graphic attacks occurred to an unsuspecting 16-year-old girl on the streets of London last year.

Teenager attacked in Knockout game
Reported incidents include a Washington, D.C. woman, who was walking home when she was punched in the back of the head by a group of teens on bicycles. They then sped away, laughing, reports WJLA.

Meanwhile in Denver, a 15-year-old was charged after he hit teacher James Addlespurger, 50, so hard he fell face first onto a concrete kerb.

"I was shocked at the whole narrative of it. There were six kids. There was me walking, just normally on my way, and boom came the punch and down I went, straight down with my face falling and hitting the cool concrete. I was shocked. I was speechless. I didn't really know what to think," Addlespurger told WTAE-TV.

In New Jersey, video footage shows Ralph Santiago, 46, targeted in broad daylight by a group of teens. He was later found dead with his head lodged between an iron fence, neck broken. Three teenagers, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, were charged with his murder.

Other recorded attacks have taken place in New Jersey and Missouri, where a pedestrian was killed in each case.

"They just want to see if you've got enough strength to knock somebody out," said one participant.

Both the New York Police Department and London Metropolitan believe the attacks are evolving into predominantly race-based hate crimes.

Behavior like this makes stand your ground and stop and frisk unfortunately necessary.

Re: WTF?! News

Wow they're prepared to screw over members of the Oklahoma National Guard???!!?

Fallin halts all spouse benefit applications at state-owned National Guard facilities

Governor decides to halt all application processing at state-owned Guard facilities.

OKLAHOMA CITY —- Oklahoma will stop processing all military spouse benefit applications at state-owned National Guard facilities rather than begin accepting the applications from same-sex spouses, Gov. Mary Fallin said Wednesday.

Instead, military spouse applications, including those of same-sex couples, will only be accepted at four federally owned National Guard bases: the Air National Guard bases in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, the Regional Training Institute in Oklahoma City and Camp Gruber.

The applications are already being processed at the state's five U.S. military installations: Fort Sill, Tinker Air Force Base, Altus Air Force Base, Enid Air Force Base and the McAlester ammunition plant.

The Fallin administration's decision appears to be in defiance of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel's directive to process the applications of all spouses, regardless of sex, although Fallin maintained her solution complies with all "federal rules or policies."

Fallin said the decision was reached in consultation with Attorney General Scott Pruitt.

"Oklahoma law is clear," Fallin said in a statement.

"The state of Oklahoma does not recognize same-sex marriages, nor does it confer marriage benefits to same-sex couples. The decision reached today allows the National Guard to obey Oklahoma law without violating federal rules or policies. It protects the integrity of our state constitution and sends a message to the federal government that they cannot simply ignore our laws or the will of the people."

Although Oklahoma owns most of the state's National Guard armories and training centers, the facilities were built almost entirely with federal funds.

The federal government provides about 90 percent of the budget for the Oklahoma Military Department, which includes the National Guard.

Toby Jenkins, executive director of Oklahomans for Equality, blasted Fallin, saying, "The governor is sending the message that Oklahoma desires to be an island of prejudice and continues to uphold laws crafted out of fear and drafted by bigots and hypocrites.

"Once again she has insulted our citizen soldiers who daily stand in harm's way for the people of Oklahoma," Jenkins said.

The current controversy began in early September, when the Defense Department said it would recognize same-sex marriages legally performed in states where such unions are recognized. This followed a U.S. Supreme Court decision that all legal marriages, regardless of the spouses' genders, must be honored by the federal government.

The Oklahoma National Guard initially complied with the DoD policy, then stopped after Fallin said that doing so violated the Oklahoma Constitution.

Oklahoma adopted a marriage definition amendment in 2004.

Last week, Hagel ordered Oklahoma and eight other states refusing to accept same-sex applications at National Guard facilities to do so immediately.

One of the eight, Indiana, immediately complied.
