Peskov said it was going to end in the near future, "perhaps in a few days", by either negotiations or because the Russians "achieved their objectives", e.g., a unilateral retreat. This in no way contradicts what Peskov says, it just means a unilateral Russian retreat is in the near future.
Anything any Russian official says is distorted heavily to suit western narratives. Peskov mentioned that Russia had suffered "heavy losses" and that was interpreted to suggest Russia was somehow losing. Westerners hear what they want to hear.

Also, Peskov is currently on the receiving end of a lot of hate because of his perceived soft stance. Russian public opinion has shifted massively against the west.

Putin has said that the war will continue until all objectives have been met. To me that means the conquest of all of Ukraine.

No way. They need >x2 troops of what they have already committed for this to happen
200,000 is more than enough to conquer Ukraine. This isn't the middle ages with people fighting with swords and spears. Wipe out their heavy weaponry (already largely done), then it becomes a one sided slaughter.

The only thing stopping Russians from progressing is their reluctance to kill Ukrainians.

Mariupol seems to be multi-cultural. People from all over the world are there..
British/American - mercenaries use for propaganda then gulag/firing squad. Any serving soldiers could be used as political bargaining chips but in the meantime get a free Siberian vacation.
Swedish - same as the Anglos.
Saudi - I'll believe it when I see it.
Turkey - a difficult one. Turkey is a country that Russia is trying to get to switch sides. I think it's futile while Erdogan is in power, but maybe Putin will think clemency will help improve relations?
Afghans - send them to the Taliban.
NATO - if western then see above. If eastern European then straight to the gulag/firing squad.

I think Ukraine has at least 400,000 troops by now. Russia is struggling to field even 200,000. Never before this war did I imagine that Russia would have a manpower problem.

When the US went against Iraq in the Gulf War, they assembled a force close to 700,000 strong. Together with the coalition, there were about 900,000 troops going against a roughly 250,000 strong Iraqi force in Kuwait and southern Iraq. A classical 3:1 numerical over match by the attacker.

This is asinine. Ukraine is a country of 40 million people. They have 200k active duty with 400k-600k reservist. Plus millions of men willing to fight an insurgency. And that insurgency would be backed by the west. 200k isn’t enough to occupy a country. You would need at least 600k fighters to do this. The best objective is take the historical Novorussiya lands turning the rest of Ukraine into a rump landlocked poor state. Taking all of it would suicide for the Russians.

I warned of all these actions being taken against the Russian people so they will "stand up" is only going to confirm what Putin has been telling them all along, that the west wants to destroy Russia and the Russian people. Russian's aren't like western zombies who lavish in our luxuries and infotainment news.

Alas, i will be proven correct yet again. It's only a matter of time.
