Type 95 Assault Rifle II

Interesting how both have the same rank but one is carrying a rifle and other a pistol. Are they making do with less resources?

I somehow doubt that they can't find a pair of pistols and SMGs from the entire ship's armory.

I also expect the ship to be well stocked with helmets and body armor, but these men are in dress uniform. Which is a giveaway that they are there mainly for show, probably as part of an open day.

Would not make a very good impression on the common folk if the men were huddled behind razor wire in full combat gear and tracking them with an excessive amount of guns as they approach now would it? :p

As the one who took the photo, and some more if you backtrack the picasa link, it was indeed an open house event at HK late last year, when the Taskforce 529 made their way home. The sailors were manning the guard post at the aft heli deck, where there's a bridge for visitors to get onboard. The pier where the event took place has no obvious armed guards patrolling, but there're plaincoats (can always tell with their crew cut and how they keep their eyes on everyone, especially if you got a camera) milling about, overall polite, but forceful if need be, in their duty.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

That is a bizzare assault rifle and integral 40mm grenade launcher layout. Most convential layout is that the grenade launcher is attached underneath the barrel while this A-91 prototype assault rifle has the grenade launcher attached above the barrel. Whats the gain in this? Wouldn't this obsecure the shooters field of view? Also what ever happened to the Type 95 Carbine version? Any pictures of the PLA ground force operating them?

The A-95 layout with the grenade launcher looks kind of flimsy and dangerous to fire. If you want to place the grenade launcher on the top of your rifle I think the AUG prototypes looks more rugged and safe for firing.

That is not that valid an arguement, is the armored knight obsolete because of armor piercing bullets or is it a combination of AP and HE shells? no armor except an exo-suit can deal with HE blast. There is just too many ways of defeating armor cheaply than to make it worthwhile.

We can easily go back to full size rifle rounds like the 7.92 or the 303 if needed, and if necessary the 12.7 or 14.5 mm is also an option.

Direct penetration is not needed to kill the soldier, you can have 20 mm HE like in the OICW, or how about napalm or other incendiary based warheads? - armor will have minimal effect.

The reason why Assault rifles were made because back in WW2 people were using overpowered Rifles that did not have the same effect the SMGs had with their high rate of Fire in Close quarters.

I think armor does have influence on the design of Assault Rifles.

Hey guys what do you think if the Type-95 were to adopt a grenade launcher system like the AICW?

Or is there another top side mounted grenade launcher system you can imagine?

If you wanted to do a topside mounted grenade launcher without developing systems like the AICW and OICW. Make it single shot with a topside breach like an SKS and M1 Garand rifles. Loading would be just pull the breach open drop the grenade into the breach and slam it shut to fire.

I think to load it from the top side would be quite unwieldy... and it offer less space for the opening. Maybe to open the breach sideway and push the grenade in from the side might give it a better ergonomic, but then again it will lost some balances.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

why did they not design the type 95 to be fitted out for left and right handed shooter. They should have looked at rifle like the FAMAS and AUG while designing their rifle system.

Sure. But it's like saying why couldn't Lotus put a 4WD system in their Elise. Surely, they've seen how good 4WD can be in sports cars like all the modern Lambos. That's not the case in reality, is it?

At the end of the day, doesn't matter if it's a gun or a car or a pen. Ultimately it's the customers who 'set' the design spec and feature, like it or not. There's a big different between the manufacture's ability and consumers' really demands. Business isn't all about showing off. Although, sometimes in terms of military products showing off can be a part of the original design request to 'avoid' unnecessary conflicts, or add some psychological edge... But, I highly doubt by add left handed shooter's feature on Type-95 would achieve any of these. One thing for sure it would certainly increase both design/developing and manufacturing costs.

I don't know if you know the fact that more than 99% of the 1.34 billion mainland Chinese are right handed.
