CEO of Aselsan recenty during the Saudi Defense Show:

"Whatever AESA technology the world has, we have more than that. Of course, our work continues. We're working on higher output power and longer ranges. But the radar we have today does the same job as the world's best examples. Let me repeat: it has more advantages than them, no deficiencies."

It will be very interesting to watch how the KAAN transforms West Asian and African politics once it enters production. Lots of potential for export for countries that want a 5th gen, but don't want to be under heavy F-35 restrictions (or if they couldn't get it) but also don't want to face sanctions from Su-57 and potentially J-35. Really quite impressive from the Turkish MIC and also highlights how dysfunctional other countries are with military development, most importantly India.

It needs a non Western engine option though.

The current timeline is to have their indigenous engine ready by 2031 or 2032, so it's definitely something they're working towards and hopefully will figure out. US engine will definitely hurt some export opportunities, but there are still a lot of nations who are friendly enough with the US to get engines approved but not an F-35. There will be a big question about cost, but at minimum they should have Saudi as an initial customer. With the J-35 entering the market and the Su-57E finally getting export orders, it wouldn't surprise me if future US governments are slightly more lenient with the engine export for the KAAN if it stops them from acquiring hostile 5th gen fighters or leaving the US sphere of influence completely for Russia or China.
