I had the opportunity to meet some people during IDEF 19 defense expo and according to the intended main contractor, STM's representitive present there, TF-2000's full displacement should be well over 8000 tons. The preliminary report suggests it will have at least 64-cell VLS system but the design phase still goes on.

The first ship should be laid down by mid-2024, right after Pakistan's 3rd ship's launch but we can't be sure until the contract phase.

Considering how long it's taking Turkey to build Milgem for Pakistan, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 10 years for Turkey to build its first Istanbul class frigate and even longer to build a TF-2000 frigate.

Pakistan's contract is proceeding as planned so far. The contract became effective on March 11, 2019 and as per the construction process calendar shared by the main contractor, the planned delivery schedule is below:

- 1st ship in 54 months (September 2023) by Istanbul Shipyard Command,
- 2nd ship in 60 months (March 2024) by Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works,
- 3rd ship in 66 months (September 2024) by Istanbul Shipyard Command,
- 4th ship in 72 months (March 2025) by Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works.
If they miss their September 2023 commitment, then we can talk about some delays.

As I said earlier, they are quite young when it comes to building indigenous warships, with less than 20 years of experience. Some premature comparison between them and some big player -Germany, France, China, Italy- would be oxymoron at best.

To add further, Pakistan's Jinnah Class (based on TF-1000 Istanbul class) steel cutting will be started on the launch of 2nd Milgem class in Karachi.

Analysis: The Future Of The Turkish Navy
Analysis-The-Future-of-the-Turkish-Navy-770x410.jpg.webp

The presence and visibility of the Turkish Naval Forces (Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri) have increased considerably within the Blue Homeland doctrine framework for several years. Regional disputes require Turkish naval forces to deploy more at sea. Thus, the Turkish defense industry's national policy has supported the continuously active Turkish Navy (TN), and a force composition is formed with indigenous weapons and systems.
