What MoD Güler said about the north of Iraq is noteworthy, but seems a bit dull. It is reported that YPG received pilot training and PKK members fled to Iran, but Iran said "I don't know". Let's see how effective it will be on the field.
"After the meetings, they carry out the activities there more seriously and are more coordinated with us."

"They make statements such as we are giving pilotage training to YPG, not PKK." "We have expectations from the Syrian regime. All our neighbors have respect for their borders and territorial integrity. We have had meetings in Astana. We have no eyes on anyone's land. We openly say that as a state, accept your Constitution. Vote, go to elections, win. You "We say, if you win, we will meet with you or whoever wins."

"In the fight against terrorism, we are fighting against terrorism on the border of Iran, Iraq and Syria. We are fighting against PKK members on the border of Iran. He is running across the border. We tell our Iranian friends that they went there. Because we follow them with UAVs, we see them. Iran tells us that there is no one there. Of course, we are disturbed, we are constantly discussing this with them, but we cannot get any results."
"Eurofighter is not a plane that belongs only to our German friends. We want to buy such a plane, and our German friends have some problems. It is out of the question for us to accept it as a member of NATO. We always share with our friends that we do not accept this. We will soon be aware of this issue." "I believe that a solution will be reached, and giving Eurofighters to Saudi Arabia could be a start."

MoD Yasar Güler:

''Türkiye can no longer fit into its container. One end is in Somalia, one end is in Bosnia, one end is in Azerbaijan, and the other end is in Central Asia... Turkey is now in these geographies. Therefore, the Turkish Army needs everything.

We are building larger aircraft carriers. "We will also build a plane that takes off and lands vertically."

"Üstüne dikine kalkıp inen uçak da yapacağız."
@sequ does it refer specifically to a manned jet?

But feels like a genuine wtf moment. Like finish at least one guys.

It doesn't even specify whether it's a fighter or not. The word "ücagi" is missing. But we all no what he meant by it ;)

Yes, and tbh i want to believe he decided to troll meaning VTVL drone or something. Or simply trolled outright, just for fun.
Because the cost/complexity of VTOL jet development makes the carrier program from a reasonable path to get a balanced navy into a...dream castle.

He said it in the context of an aircraft carrier, he didn't just blurt it out randomly.

But this thing will be something for the late thirties, early forties.

well, late 2030s given that today is 2024 is actually a rather strained program.
Given that VTOL jet will at the very least benefit from something like a flying laboratory in the middle.

Like, at this point Turkey has as many prestigious "flagship"(read - expensive tickets) programs as if it's the 4th big power.
Turkish MIC made an incredible jump in the last 12 years or so, but this is an outright wtf.

You're wrongfully surprised.

Let's see, but this is getting far, far beyond reasonable even when I consider myself very optimistic towards Turkiye (or, to be exact, most modern countries considerably underdeveloped compared to their actual potential: legacy of cold war).

People have no clue how much money the Turkish military has saved since 2002. Foreign big ticket purchases since then are as follows:

Airforce:
- E7T= $1.4B
- F-16 CCIP+PO IV= $4B
- S400= $2.5B
- A400M= $1.1B

Army:
- T129= $3.3B
- T-155=$1.4B

Navy:
- TCG Anadolu= $1.25B
- MILGEM 5x= $1.7B
- Reis sub= $2B
- ASuW H & MPA= $1B

That is $20 billion over the course of 22+ years. For convenience sake lets round it up to $1 billion per year of foreign acquisition which is mostly produced/modernized within the country using local personnel and materiel.

This is mostly why the Turks are able to invest so much in the indigenous defense industry. It has saved boatloads of money over decades. The downside is that they fell behind the rest of the region since 2018 and this will take another at max. 4 years before the gap is almost closed.
