The thing is people like Laura should be glad that she even has this position to begin with. She studied English literature and Russian. Normally she should be unemployed but here she is making grand claims. LOL

I always say that the best medicine for these types is to give them what they want. When talented people no longer there and standards of living reacj 3rd world level, she can finally have a lifestyle that her intellect can support.

Hahaha ..his base is livid . They are crying betrayal
Their base is only livid because Trump didn't bother selling it.
Trump simply needed to insist other countries pay tariffs and their base cheer as they get taxed.
Same for H1B, if Trump framed it as something like "we're taking talent from other countries to hurt them" or "H1B are low talent and we need to save the high talent jobs for MAGA" then they'd cheer for it.
The good thing about a dumb population is they might get mad over dumb things, but you can also make them cheer at dumb things.

How he would sell it:

"Everybody in the audience and the employees on set, walk to the left side of the room if your child has a PhD in physics, math, engineering, biology, computer science, basically any core STEM. OK now if your child studies law, accounting, business, communications, arts, management, hospitality, some other useless bullshit like that, walk to the right side of the room. Shit, everybody quickly come back to the middle before the entire fucking building sinks through the foundation on the left side from excess uneven weight! That's why we need H1B. Because you're all worthless leeches sucking blood from society for yourselves while contributing nothing and the hard power of any society can only be built on STEM. I need to bring them in to build our society so your rotten party brats can study cushy easy garbage majors, that would really be nothing more than common sense were it not for the artificially inserted jargon terms, and still live rich lives. And if you don't agree, try being a lawyer or investment banker in Haiti and see what kind of life you can build in a society that lacks the hard power brought by STEM."

Sorry I was just daydreaming what a smart Trump would say/know.

I've been in an Uber driven by a white middle-aged male Trump supporter before. They really see him as "their" leader. For a lot of them, it's because their life isn't good and he has sold himself as their last and/or best hope. For others, it's because they are racist. And yet for others, it's because they did not understand what the likely economic impact of his policies would be. And likely refused to accept it could possibly go that way. In most cases his policies harmed them directly and they refuse to believe it. Often times the individual in question fits some or all of these slots at once. It's a cult of the desperate, stupid, and/or hateful. Not good people. And most of them are snowflakes. They believe they're superior and just shut down or lash out when there is any indication otherwise. Facts don't matter to these people. It's all about what they feel and what they believe. Denial is their biggest coping tool by far. And yet some of them are also fatalist. Saying things like all empires rise and fall, and it's just time for this one to fall. Meanwhile the top 5% are living pretty good. And the top 1% are really living well.

As I said earlier in my post about tech:
"It is all part of his culture war against education and intelligence. He and his supporters have associated magnets, electric motors, renewable energy, batteries, and higher education with being impractical, useless, and snobbish in contrast with the salt of the earth blue collar types with their solid reliable black smoke belching fossil fuel burning muscle car engines. It's not about facts, but about psychological "feel" to them. "

It is a knee jerk reaction and backlash against change, all with an underlying racism that is still implicitly there even if never explicitly said. All of which is based on this longing for a mythical past of an idealized 1950's in which the rest of the world was a post-WWII bombed out wasteland or undeveloped, with the US as the only major industrial power, in which a minimally educated blue collar white person could have a standard of living above all the non-whites of the world, thereby reinforcing their sense of racial superiority. The changing times have left them with this deep vague sense of "something is not right" especially when they see all these non-whites doing better than them, but since they cannot admit that they could lose to non-white peoples, they conclude it must be because of "cheating" or "stealing jobs/tech". The same cycle has been played out repeatedly against Japanese and South Koreans (though that did not last long before switching to China).

These are great posts and summarize my feelings on these peoples behavior almost perfectly!
