asked an AI what the tariffs on a Chinese TV imported into the USA in July are, and the answer was from 7% to 25%. Considering that consumer electronics are one of the main import categories from China to the USA, I would say that the tariffs on China are definitely not the 55% global figure.
Knowing how much of a smokescreen there was over the entire negotiation, framework, and deal, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the numbers out there are fake. High ones so that Trump looks tough. Low ones so that Trump looks weak (from the Dems).

55% is an average across a bunch of categories, and most importantly, it's a number on paper. What actually gets collected in practice is very frequently different than what is written on paper, because everyone is obviously incentivized to pay as little as possible. Sometimes legally, sometimes not, sometimes (often) in a fuzzy grey area. I've said this many times before, but laws are only ever as good as their enforcement.

Hồ Chí minh did not say that. The quote "it better to sniff some French/American shit now then eat Chinese rice later" come from an anti China/pro west faction in Viet Nam. They are attempt to create a division between China and Việt Nam relationship by usually create made-up stories every week like how the Chinese are killing Vietnamese fishermen, kidnapping Vietnamese women or the CCP are trying to colonize Việt Nam.
You need to understand these faction are extremely hate VCP and CPC, very pro US to the point they look like a cult. While there is animosity among the Vietnamese toward Chinese but remember these faction are using this animosity to try to create a conflict with China. Despite they are Vietnamese themselves but they are not pro Việt Nam by any mean but have a West worship mentality that communism is bad and everything in the West is good.
I stand corrected then :)

From what I read, Temu and Shein has a work around for the end of de-minimis 0% loophole, they are bulk shipping items on containers to US warehouses and declaring quote "laughably low" commercial value on the imported items, which can tariffed on declared value. Then recruiting many US based sellers to sell on their platform fulfilled from these warehouses.

So effectively, Americans going to keep getting their cheap goods from China with low effective tariffs paid, just fulfilled by US sellers as the middle men.

You can’t blame vietnams communist party leaders to be honest. Their largest market is the US, so they don’t have much choice to accept US terms and avoid even higher tariffs which will tank their economy. So they can only bend the knee. Shows the amount of leverage the US has over them(and other countries) by using her large market access as a bargaining chip. So I understand them

The only thing they can do is to try and diversify the markets for their products. However it’s easier said than done, since the US is still the largest market/importer for many goods in the world, and changing markets takes a long time. So their options are not as much as they will like.
The Vietnamese just love the dollar. In Vietnam, when you talk about foreign countries, you are talking about the US. Other countries are seen as either US extensions (like EU and Japan) or either US enemies (like China, Iran, etc). They will do anything as long as they get more dollars. Most Vietnamese officials have their children study in the US. They think themselves as an unofficial US state. The one who belive "American dream" the most is no longer the American, it's the Vietnamese. It's also the Vietnamese American who voted vehemently for Trump. Trump is also wildly popular in Vietnam, must more than Biden because Biden is seen as "soft". They want anti-China US leaders, even if it damage Vietnam.
