Depending on the item, it could mean nothing, it could mean a 65% savings, or it could mean a sale when there was none before. Believe it or not, 145% tariffs will not shut down all trade. For example, trinkets you often see at novelty stores with some bullshit gem or stone in the middle selling for ~$15 often cost less than $1 from China in bulk. So with 145% tariffs, they're still under $2.45 for the business to acquire. Shop owners are pissed, maybe up the price to $15 to $16.45, maybe keep it at $15 and eat the difference themselves but that business still goes on as normal despite the tariffs.
80% or 145 makes no difference.

Explain to me again why there’s a meaningful difference between 145% tariffs and 80%.
Damn, you must have went to US public school...

If an item manufactured in China costs $100, with 145% tariffs, it's $245 when it arrives in the US. If it's 80% tariffs, it's $180. If the US alternative is, say $210, the Chinese item is favorable at 80% tariffs but unfavorable at 145%.

Also, I thought you supported Trump. Why are you calling him a useless idiot doing things that make no difference?

Lol 80% vs 145% tariff makes zero difference.

Once a Chinese product crosses certain price threshold it is no longer competitive. The exact amount beyond that point doesn’t matter

Using your example of a $100 product. Does it really if a product is now 80% or 145% more expensive?

Got it. You think your president's a retard who does meaningless things and arithmetic is too hard for you.

Yes, but 80% and even 145% no not reach that threshold in many cases. I just showed you twice. Do you have any idea how many items are in American stores being marked up over 10X what they bought it for from China with the nearest US possibility charging 5-10x more?

You can't really be this stupid, right? You're joking, right? Kids from a Detroit public school should be close to getting it by now.

Supplier A charges $100; supplier B charges $210.

In scenerio X, the tariff is 145% so the final cost from supplier A is $245. You choose to buy from supplier B because $210 is lower than $245.

In scenerio Y, the tariff is 80% so the final cost from supplier A is $180. You choose to buy from supplier A because $180 is lower than $210.

If you tell me again that you still don't get it, a hood rat might stand up from out of his crack pile in the back of the classroom and yell out the explanation to you LOL

Is this a serious question?

You're coping pretty hard right now.

Yes there is a big material difference between 80% and 145% for certain products, especially key products that others cannot make.

But if there is no difference like you say, why did trump decrease it, making it look like he caved? Why not increase it instead to 200%?!? Or 300?!? To look strong, cause according to you, there is no material difference?
