A positive trait of Japanese society is that they follow instructions to the t, similar to the Germans, which manifests as a strong advantage in manufacturing, where an operator needs to follow the SOP line by line. This is easier said than done, anyone who has worked in manufacturing or construction in anglo countries will know. However, this trait has a price - creativity is stifled - something that I have heard firsthand from Japanese and Chinese researchers.

There in fact are scams in Japan, and many of them, ranging from small scale "cheat the elderly / vulnerable / uninformed" to large scale e.g. real estate scams (see "Land Swindlers" on netflix). As a metric of sorts, the tax refund system at airports does demonstrate to some extent the latent "trust not to cheat / scam" level in a society - the more checks, proof of purchase and ID required, the more 'scamming' is expected in that society. There are historical precedences too - Japan tends to try sneaky moves timed at the right moments to gain an advantage.
I don't want to emulate anything from the Japanese Bushido code of "discipline and obedience" that some of us seem to place as some sort of virtue worth following. It's those traits that have placed Japan at their current predicament and caused them to act and commit imperialism and genocide against China and other Asian countries.

Japanese are nothing but extreme followers and not leaders; they are incapable of developing and deviating from any established doctrine which make them terribly dogmatic to a certain degree. Whereas in my opinion, Chinese people are restless bunch, unruly, rebellious, extremely ingenuitive, entrepreneurial, resourceful, cunning, and can accept and endure hardships. Despite the great ignorance the west have heaped against China and the Chinese - not to mention the few HANJIANS - we Chinese are restless folks never satisfied with our lot and place in life which also work against us from time to time. The very trait that has allowed and ensured the rise and fall of many Chinese dynasties but allowed the continuation of our civilization that few or any great civilization of old can lay claim to.

Those aspects of Japanese culture is just traditional Chinese culture.
Tang yes but that culture changes from dynasty to dynasty. China is no longer Tang and if anything it’s often the branch civilization that retains more aspects of the original than the direct offspring as with Calvinist England and US vs the modern UK for example.

You tend to sacrifice one for the other when attempting perfection and precision vs value and efficiency. If anything, German and Japan are similar in they are specialists as they were historically feudalistic while American and China more generalists as they had more meritorious systems. With size you become less agile and efficient but weight is its own strength as the saying goes “sharpen a knife too much and it was become thin and easy to break,” a reference by Fan Zeng to Xiangyu vs Liu Bang. The blunt force of the mace broken the sharp sword of the enemy like US industry and Russian manpower crushed their axis counterparts not because they were better fighters or technology per se because that had greater resilience and more consistency.

This stereotype of Japan following their leader does not hold up to historical scrutiny.

Japanese people place great care in projecting an outward image of obedience and virtue but their hearts are not aligned with their face.

Their emperor is simultaneously a god like figure but also a puppet. The Shoguns have completely taken the power from under them for centuries.

Don't forget that unlike other participants of WW2, their policy of aggression strangely came from bottom up rather than top down. The vast majority of Japanese people actively wanted wars of conquests and wanted them yesterday. They assassinated any of their civilian leaders who knew wisely that those wars will lead to ruination. The 7-7 incident that sparked the war in 1937 was orchestrated by the low level troops themselves. The top brass actually had no control and just had to go along with it. It remained this way until the very end of the war in 1945 when a group of mid level officers attempted a failed coup d'etat to stop the surrender.

Chinese leaders even back in the Sui-Song dynasties has correctly identified their national character.

倭国知小礼而无大义,拘小节而无大德,重末节而轻廉耻,畏威而不怀德,强必盗寇,弱必卑伏‌。

The Eastern dwarve kindgom may have learned some intricacies of rituals and politeness, but lacks understanding of the true morality and principles. They spend much energy with the small details, but do not possess high educated morals of a gentleman. They like to focus on the minute details but disregard the core principles of integrity. They fear hard power and might, but do not appreciate kindness or principled engagements from the heart. If they are strong they will definitely become bandits, if they are weak they'll naturally bow down.

If you need examples of how the politeness of the Japanese is also extremely surface level theatrics, look at how they treat customer service people when they have a complaint. The Chinese who are very loud at first usually can become very laid back and understanding when it comes time to resolving those situations, whereas the Japanese in the same situation will abuse the crap out of the poor recipient regardless and demand an apology. In fact in their mind they feel that they are entitled to be able to abuse them since they paid for a service and show their true face.

That Japanese inflexibility will not be an advantage in the future.

Manufacturing and routine tasks will largely be automated, and robots will always follow instructions.

So what matters more is the creativity side.

Inside China's decision to come to the table on Trump tariffs

Wow, the US is really desperate to play this as a win. Apparently, China’s willingness to simply just sit down with Bessent is being played as China willing to come to the table.

It’s like they didn’t bother to actually understand China’s statement regarding this sit down or the sequence of events that is leading to the sit down.

It would be really funny if at that point having Bessent flown to Switzerland, the Chinese delegation just went ‘something came up, unfortunately we don’t have the time to meet.’

They were always going to play it that way so no surprises here. We all know they've been trying to talk to China and so they reached out first. Then this propaganda piece was co-written by an ethnic Chinese to give added legitimacy to their claim, it's the same crap they pulled when they criticized the Burkinabe leader the other day, they got a black face to do it.

Among the main drivers of Beijing's climb-down were internal signals that Chinese companies were struggling to avoid bankruptcies and to replace the U.S. market, three people familiar with the Chinese government's thinking said.
How can anybody with a brain take this seriously, lol!

Trump is incapable of admitting a loss. He is a deeply disturbed person mentally which makes him need to perceive everything as a win. So he will likely hold onto these tariffs exactly as long as his ego allows him, in which case he will give up on them and sign some sort of agreement that either returns to previous status quo or gives him some sort of symbolic win. Either way, he will spin it as a massive victory, his deeply delusion base will eat it up and things will move on.

This is the MAGA marry-go-round and we've been here before. The only real difference is that this time Trump is surrounded by a bunch of sycophants and sociopaths who will use him for whatever goals they are trying to achieve.
