Equation Earth to Equation... First that is fiction. The story it's based on is not actually of a defection but an attempt at a revolution. second A Mirage 2000-5 is hardly a Super stealthy platform. Infact that platform the Mirage is more likely to have been the culprit.

Yes the novel is fiction but I was referring to the pilot possible reason for defection.

Again earth to Equation, there has not been any detection. All indications are that the bird crashed after some sort of technical problems.
Had there been a Defector by now the PRC would have made an announcement.

So where is it? Just because it is still missing doesn't mean it had crashed. Until the Taiwan media announced the official crash than we can call it a crash, other than that it's all speculation for now.

The fact is a Crash is more and more the realistic possibility It was lost Wednesday's today is Saturday, Sunday Taiwan time.
Had it been a Defector the PRC would have made an announcement very quickly and the longer the time between disappearance and the current news cycle the more likely a hard slash down.
Not because of the value of the plane and Pilot but the Propaganda value, I mean the PRC news cycle is already berating the poor quality of the Mirage fighters and Morale of the ROC forces.
a Defector they could show in TV and the Front pages of the newspapers Parade about shaking hands with the party leadership that would be Icing on the cake. A full Victory lap for the PRC and Shame for the ROC who managed 20 years without a flying defector.

But the one guy, who was aa Major and defected with an F-5, and then was made the head of the Instruction Academy and awarded what amounted to $360,000 (US), was a defection and this made a big statement.

Awarding him that much money and that type of position indicates to me that he was a real defetor...perhapps had even been working for a long time as a double agent and was about to be "found out," but at the very least had shared a LOT of sensitive and what the PRC considered to be critical information.

Sad day for the ROC.

Why are we discussing defections? There is no evidence at all of there being a defection. Where did this rumor start?

Aircraft goes missing flying over the ocean at night, no news for days = at the bottom of the sea somewhere. Evidence aside, defection isn't even a logical guess.

More seriously never see a Taiwanese Mirage 2000-5 EI/DI with Mica IR only Magic II French Mirage 2000-5F same but formers last Mirage 2000C with RDI radar refurbished ( especialy have RDY exist RDY-2 for Mirage 2000-9 range + 15 % ) initialy had also Magic II in more Mica EM but few years after get IR variants in general on outermost HPs ( Mirage 2000-5F SF1-IR

Meantime they don't have Mica IR as Qatar Mirage 2000-5EDA/DDA but this one is more versatile with especialy Apache CM more used for A2G misions

What do you know Taiwan Harpy
