That's the thing, why would Taiwan announce they have the nuke in first place? It would be the ace in the cards for Taiwan. The strategy would be in the event invasion, without China knowing, the nukes would be use as DEFENSIVE weapon. When large concentration of force coming to invade Taiwan, that's when the nukes are used. PLA will incur unacceptable loss.

And by the way, nuclear weapons are most useful when everyone knows about it and when NOT used. It loses its strategic value all together when you keep it a secret. This is especially the case when you want to use them as a "defensive" weapon, as you suggest. Being "defensive" means that the weapons will be detonated in your own territory. It will cause more casualty on your side (mostly civilians) than your enemy. Your opponent could send in a few unmanned land vehicles and detonate the weapons, rendering the entire island uninhabitable.

And after that, you will be tried by your own people for committing war crimes. Keep in mind that this would be your own weapon detonated in your own territory killing your own people. Taiwan will be the one suffering unacceptable losses. And it's because of your "secret nukes".

So you are saying that you want to be toasted or be vaporized for freedom? Or you want other people in Taiwan die for freedom while you comfortably hide in some corner of the planet?

I don't think you are a person from Taiwan, neither do you have any friends or relatives in Taiwan, that is why you can come up with such a CRUEL solution for Taiwan's "freedom". Does it sound like "final solution"?

Together with your Russian against China BS, and now the Taiwan nuke "invading" PLA and Taiwan's own population, and China being finished off, it is clear that you were NOT advocating for China's good, but you HATE Chinese (both mainland and Taiwan) so much so that you want a genocide.

Listen to yourself, hear any echo from the maniac from 1938-1945? I do.

I think he's saying that American and Japanese should fight and die for Taiwanese freedom while the Taiwanese sit back and watch and enjoy their freedom...

Mods... Come here quickly! Because Taiwanese want to drop a nuclear bomb on mainland and others argue that you won't go to jail if you're supporting democracy there! Crazy ideas all over.

Yes, you can delete this post afterwards.

Although I agree that it is getting OT by now.

But it sounds like you just appointed yourself to be the super Mod who instructs which post that Mods can delete? That is the one of the craziest ideas I have seen so far, no less that "nuke" proposal.o_O

See, here is the problem right there.
China right now is a dictatorship. It is completely unappealing to make people even want to reunite with China. And you just follow exactly how people outside of China hates you for that exact reason - being a bossy asshat thinking you can tell people what to do.

There is something called FREEDOM which you can't possible understand. And people will fight to the death to defend that.

Like I said, Taiwan needs nuclear weapons, and with hawkish America under Trump who is unconventional and probably even crazy and secretly hates Chinese, there are many ways for Trump to screw China. One of them is probably secretly supplying Taiwan with nukes. There is nothing China can do once Taiwan has nukes and are more than willing to use it, and I think that's one of the option America is probably reserving in its strategy - if push comes to shove when China push America, that could become an option, and then Taiwan would really become a thorn on China's side.

The outcome would most likely be either China backs off and recognize Taiwan's independence, or Taiwan gets sacrifice in a nuclear exchange with China, and a hugely weaken (if not half-destroyed) China get finished off by Japan and America.

What "freedom", you can't live on an island or peace of land that doesn't belong to you in the first place? Hawkish Taiwanese are a dictatorship themselves demanding the world to accept the stolen Taiwan province as their own after losing the civil war, therefore have no governing right to exist at all. America just can't single handedly hand over a nuke to Taiwan otherwise China could do the same to Cuba or Iran. As a result they both will be breaking the understanding from the UN Permanent Security Council understanding and status quo.

Trump is a showmanship he talk the talk and walk very gently and scatter back just enough to appease his crowd but nothing serious to hurt China.

Sat down with a cup of tea and started browsing CDF to start offmy morning, and I get to read the worst military scenarios of all-time by Ultra.
U.S secretly supplying Nukes to Taiwan? Nukes are a deterrent. Nuclear capability isn't meant to be hidden, it is to be displayed to stop an opponent from launching theirs at you.
Chinese people don't know what 'freedom' is? This isn't the sixties.Get out from your foxhole and take a trip to China, if you do have a passport. You might be surprised.
People outside of China hate China? Oh please, o ly the racist bigots can speak that way. I am from India, and being a neighbourof China, there are some frictions between our two countries from time to time. But let me tell you, I don't hate China. Heck, most of us look upto China with respect, and even awe. The Sick man of Asia is today the pride of Asia, and Xhina did it through sheer determination and hard work. Every single developing nation looks upto China and hopes that maybe they can emulate the Chinese in some small way to better their own nations. The Chinese have shown that no matter where you start from, how low your starting point can be, through hard work and good leadership, a nation can rise to the top.
Boobytrapping Taiwan with Nukes? I'm still trying to stop laughing.

Well that's pretty much covers it, if not 100% at least 98%. It's an inconvenient truth that the Taiwanese doesn't want the world to know, and one that China doesn't know it's ripe for exploit.

BTW Ultra, the poorly constructed scenario and "reasoning" is about on par with the "UN comes to take your guns" crap I've hear now and then for 3 decades of my physical existence, and that says something...

heavy traffic in this thread :)

I recall reading, several years ago in a Czech military journal, an awesome article describing how Taiwanese defensive strategies have been changing over time (and sometimes the same strategy returned), from (not in a chronological order, just off top of my head)
  • basically trying to fight even west to the Pescadores (to disrupt the invasion forces soon), up to
  • basically allowing the landing at first, to be able to close in on the (specific) beachheads/approaches to the interior with overwhelming force
  • through "hedgehog" of course
I then talked in a pub about it, and while this topic is very interesting (a general problem of "how to defend indefensible"), it's clear it should be avoided here

EDIT
now I recalled another interesting point mentioned in that article: EAST coast of Taiwan
