Suggestion: Temporary Mods

To be honest, I really think there was just a few members that derailed the discussions
sequ has already been temp banned. He was calling everyone who argued with him "Tankie" and basically every other post was the glory of the Bayraktar-2
The other member that stands out to me is the one who basically said the current war in Ukraine should "teach China a lesson to keep their hands of Taiwan" at least 17 different times and US SSNs will clear the seas of the entire PLAN. Obvious flamebait.

Didn't that dude also bring up out of nowhere about the Uyghurs or am I thinking about another dude? But yes, there are very clear signs of a few people who almost only post flamebait and continue to troll and derail the thread. I know the mods may not have time or may simply hate being in there to regulate the thread so I am also for temporary mods for specific threads.

Mods could have done what Jeff did back in the old days, ban political discussions for the duration of conflict regardless of members' affiliations. Any member chooses to engage in political discussion should receive a ban. The forum was civil enough during Donbas war and early days of Syrian conflict because mods kept the discussion mostly on military matters.

Also members should use the ignore function more. Most of us are here to have a discussion for fun not to prove our chosen side is better or morally superior somehow.

Or Unmodded section with individual thread delegation...

So the entire section has no moderation involvement (except for illegal stuff like porn, piracy, true threats, phising, spam, scams, etc) Anyone can start their own thread and make posts without worrying about getting ban

But within the unmodded section itself anyone who starts a thread is automatically assigned delegation moderation powers to his or her own thread, within the scope of the single thread itself.

To prevent flooding have thread creation and post limits. Give option to down or upvote threads and thread order is a function of date /how recent and post popularity to keep the relevant and high quality/popular threads on top and more visible (sorta like how reddit post ordering works)

Here I go!

As the member that jumped on the movement, and opened the thread, of course, I felt a special connection (sad, huh). But, all of us that participated and experienced the highs, Overbom, Suetham, Anzha, and yes, even Yong Pen Suen, and the lows, who will go unnamed, might consider the thread in the wider context of the conflict, itself. A potentially history-changing event evoked high emotion, expectations, and participation, with Tigers and Zebras of all stripes involved. In a sense, it was bound to get out of hand, particularly in this new age of mass-informationization (or is that informationitization).

So, I guess what I’m saying is that maybe our beloved thread, “Ukrainian Conflict Developments”, simply became an unfortunate, but necessary, casualty of the Ukrainian Information Conflict!

But, boy oh boy, at some points we threw-up more posts and pages than the Flagship J-20 thread, itself!

They should give some trusted core members the ability to mute anyone for 24 hours in the Ukraine thread only for the remainder of the war. When muted, the offender recieves one of following reasons: 1) off-topic, 2) no one-liners, 3) political shitstirring post. 'Trusted' members include people with consistent quality posting history, not one-liners or off-topic rants.

I like the idea of the Thread Moderator.

What about a “shadow ignore” feature, by which a Thread Moderator could place a violator on ignore for a specific thread without the fool knowing it? Thus, fools would furiously post foolishness that would appear in their view, but no one else’s!

Similar to the "honeypot" tactic in computer security. I like it.
