Bullet trains tailored for the high-speed railway network linking the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and the city of Bandung were unveiled on Friday in eastern China, marking an important milestone of the project and preparing for the line's scheduled opening, China Railway International said.

A total of 11 sets of bullet trains and an inspection train, all adopting Chinese standards, were showcased in Qingdao, Shandong province. They will be shipped to Indonesia soon.

According to China Railway International, a subsidiary of China State Railway Group, which is overseeing the project, the trains, designed and developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co, Ltd, are based on advanced and mature technologies of China-made Fuxing bullet trains which operate at the speed of 350 km per hour. The CRRC has also made changes to adapt to local environment and routes, as well as incorporating Indonesian culture elements to give passengers more comfortable traveling experience.

The 243-kilometer-line, a landmark project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, began construction in 2018 and is expected to open to traffic in June next year.

With trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 km per hour, the line will cut the journey between Jakarta and the capital of Indonesia's West Java province from over three hours to just 40 minutes.

Trade corridor boosts China, ASEAN biz integration

NANNING-X9575, a freight train departing from Chongqing municipality in Southwest China, arrived at Qinzhou Port East Station in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Monday.

Loaded with goods such as auto parts, chemicals and Chinese foods from regions along the land-sea freight route-part of the new International Land-Sea Trade Corridor-X9575 transfers at the Qinzhou Port, where the cargo will be shipped to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states.

"It used to take about a month for commodities from western regions to reach ASEAN member states via the Yangtze River and sea route," said Liang Yu, deputy head of the station. Now cargo consigned in Chongqing can be delivered to Vietnam through the corridor in just four days, Liang said.

Launched in 2017, the new International Land-Sea Trade Corridor is a trade and logistics passage jointly built by western Chinese provinces and ASEAN member states.

With Chongqing as the transportation hub, the corridor uses ports in Guangxi's Beibu Gulf to reach ports in Singapore and other ASEAN member states, and links China-Europe freight trains setting off from many western Chinese cities before heading to Central Asia, South Asia and Europe.

The corridor saw 379,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers transported by the railway's intermodal freight trains in the first six months, up 33.4 percent year-on-year, said the China Railway Nanning Group Co Ltd.

The corridor, covering 14 provincial-level regions in China, has expanded its reach to 319 ports in 107 countries and regions.

Speaking of the corridor at the 12th Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation Forum held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, earlier this month, Basilio Dias Araujo, deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, said it has brought more opportunities to the connectivity between China and ASEAN.

Basilio added that as a maritime country, Indonesia is also happy to join in the construction of the corridor, and strengthen cooperation with ports along the route, including the Beibu Gulf Port.

The Beibu Gulf Port, which comprises the ports of Qinzhou, Fangcheng and Beihai, serves as an important transit point in the new International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. In the first half, the port saw its cargo throughput rise 6.95 percent year-on-year to 139 million metric tons.

In April, Gansu province signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand to boost trade and strengthen bilateral relations.

Jurin Laksanawisit, Thai deputy prime minister and commerce minister, said the signing of the MoU fully reflects Thailand's expectations to further develop the economy within the region and achieve common prosperity through the corridor.

Official data showed that over the past five years, the trade volume between the regions and cities along the corridor in China with ASEAN has continued to rise, up from $58.9 billion in 2017 to $107.7 billion in 2021.

I will be relieved once this gets signed. China needs to firm up in its relations with Philippines.
Sir the whole episode is a political Kabuki show, the reason for the contract resigning is that a new administration is coming in, it is appropriate NOT to taint the project with any corruption as Duterte leave office. The plan, the laid out and the engineering study had been done by the Chinese, why would they give those to the Japanese IF they accepted it. And it is better these way as the re-signed Loan had been studied carefully and the it was shown to the Public that these project will not be like the Debt Trap the opposition and the Western MSM had been sprouting about.

And I think Marcos will signed it this coming G20 summit in Indonesia or a state visit later on when he meet Xi at that event and accept his invitation this year. Let's see IF he will follow Duterte sample and visited China first before Japan. ;)

Nop said the project has brought the significant development of basic infrastructure such as water supply, roads, and solar power.

The project has been focusing on improving village roads, providing family clean water, giving health care support, developing agriculture and animal raising, and providing vocational training,
This is the kind of stuff that China needs to be focusing on with less developed ASEAN countries who really need a lot of help in basic povery alleviation

Again, I don't know how effective these vaccines are against the omicron strain, but it's certainly a good move to allow allied countries to produce them locally. Bio/Pharma industry is huge. Semiconductor isn't the only industry China can share its expertise on.

Now, RCEP countries represent 30.5% of China's trade. Keep in mind that Japan/SK/Australia/NZ represent about 12%, so the southeast Asian countries represent about 18%. That is still quite impressive and slightly higher than China's trade with America.
