I was thinking that the reason why the J-XDS main bays look so short/about the same size as the J-20 is that it's likely optimized for the PL-16 which is rumored to better than the PL-15 in every metric while in a smaller form factor. As like the PL-15 being designed for the J-20's weapons bay. While the J-36 is meant as the general multirole, carry any munition aircraft, the J-XDS could be just pure air superiority.
Surely if this is going to be a naval aircraft or have a naval variant, it should come with some decent strike capability IMO. The J-35 can't carry much A2G internally due to a small bay and unless PLAN want to operate J-15T as their only strike aircraft well into the 6th gen era, I don't see why J-XDS won't have a robust multirole capability in its design.

That doesn’t necessarily require length at all. A new generation of strike weapons designed and optimized for future fighter jets are more optimal than trying to shoehorn old weapon systems Like cruise missiles and anti ship missiles into them. The Chinese likely have an equivalent to the Mako hypersonic missile to perform antishipping. The weapons bay only needs to be deep enough for this to work.

Strike packages can and should be carried by unmanned systems as well. Drones and loyal wingman aircraft will play a big part of air power in the future. Something like the GJ-11 in my opinion will be playing the pivotal roles in strike aviation.

It's limiting to think about missiles for the sixth gens only in terms of the "known knowns". A better mindset would be "next gen planes will be accompanied by next gen missiles".
That's true, if PL-16 is already in service, that means the J-XDS will likely carry the missile that's a generation after it, considering it may be 6-8 years before J-XDS enters service, while the PL-15 entered service around the same time as the J-20.
