Be warned NEVER TRUST SKINNY COOKS:D

true enough! When ever my wife and I watch the food channel and see one of those toothpick thin women cooking I don't believe she's really a cook..just some skinny model that was taught how to prepare food.

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

I was just reading a article in Der Spiegel about the German troops in Afghanistan which involved some strange cultural practices.

extract as follows

"And when an Afghan soldier feels truly at ease with Major M., he could very well take his hand and stroll through the camp with him, holding hands. This is the custom in Afghanistan.
The major has no objection. He is a practical man who knows that wars are not just won with gunfire. And he is a man who is prepared to overcome his culturally ingrained opposition to men holding hands so that this war can be brought to an end, both for Afghanistan and for the Germans."

I once had a naval friend in the NZ Navy 60's to, mid 80's, he actually crewed the ist leander class frigate back from the UK to NZ. Well during general conversation he often addressed us with love, like in "thanks Love" etc etc. When we jokingly suggested he had been too long in the navy (apologies popeye) he said it was something he picked up while living in the UK, where in certain areas it was quite common to address males as well as females with "love" we grudgingly accepted his explanation.

I've often seen photos and in real life Asian Women going around holding hands, no sexual connotation here, just normal behaviour,

this has got me thinking is anyone else aware of any other strange but bemusing and innocent cultural behaviour?

Sometimes things are lost in translation which can be amusing, not so long ago I bought a electric hedge trimmer, made in China of course, It carried a warning pamphlet with a list of no no's, of which one was, dangerous to use for trimming toenails.

Has anyone seen anything which is humorousness when lost in translation.

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

This same naval friend rose to the ranks of the highest non commissioned officer, but he was dead scared of his wife. Hope your'e not like that popeye. He was always a clock watcher and when he was out with the boys, and was told to be home by a certain time, he always was. We could always tell when he was going to take his leave of us because he would start looking at his watch, calculating how long it was gonna take him to get home, and he was NEVER a minute late. 1600hrs meant 1600hrs as his wife was concerned.

A lesson learned is a dollar saved.

Is that a saying Or did I just make it up?. Hmmm

You can never match the colors on what is displayed at the printers for a variety of reasons involving software etc etc.
I suppose printing artwork at school level doesn't matter but at professional level they usually take the trouble to get a color match, by getting the printing firm to run off a test strip.

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

One of the schools over here has sent yr12 children home 4 the week because of swine flu.

In the old days when someone got chicken pox, measles, and mumps, it was customary to send your own children around so they would catch it to, get it over and done with .

So I wonder why we just don't have a flu feast.everyone catches it over and done with in a month, end of story.

Its starting to get a bit silly if you have the slightest of sniffles one is requested to absent yourself from the team sport, even at club level

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

Yeah Westlake girls. At school today, all my teachers were giving us instructions to tell us what to do if our school was forced to close down as well (i.e.: internet class rooms and emails etc).

I personally hope school doesn't close, it doesn't help the community and the country's infrastructure. Most people just want a day off school, but we're nearing the end of the term anyway. I hope we can make the last three weeks without incident.

Oh and, I saw on the news just now that they don't recommend people going around trying to get H1N1 because you wouldn't know if you're one of the few who will react badly to it. Also because it's "irresponsible" because all the countries are trying to contain it and trying to get it will defeat the purpose.

(but man, is H1N1 getting close... the girls school is like just down the road from where I'm typing this up now. Hopefully it is only a media hype, as tons of people die from influenza every year. It's just cause Swine flu sounds cooler than "flu" is what my physics teacher said :))
