so on this Pakistan/Saudi Arabia news, it seemed like Saudis are taking this really very seriously and came very urgently (given it's agreement immediately after that recent Muslim country conference).
My speculation is that this could be a step toward bringing Saudi into China's defense intelligence umbrella, which Pakistan already has access to.
There's been fairly public chatter —
— that Saudi Arabia would be able to procure nuclear weapons from Pakistan at will should circumstances necessitate such a strategic capability.
Considering what Saudi officialdom has
to mainstream Western media regarding its new
with Pakistan:
Asked whether Pakistan would be obliged to provide Saudi Arabia with a nuclear umbrella under the pact, the official said: "This is a comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means."
It appears Riyadh decided it was
now time to formally and overtly announce its "nuclear sharing" agreement with Islamabad.
A bit bold on the part of the Saudis, but this obviously didn't occur in a vacuum. If we're to speculate: Uncle Sam most likely failed to request
in advance for its Israeli pet when the IAF struck Doha last week, and the Saudis are pissed.
Or worse yet for Washington: the Saudis are of the assessment that the Americans were
complicit in their fancy THAAD batteries' failure to intercept even a single Israeli ALBM violating sovereign Saudi airspace.
Regardless, the House of Saud are definitely making their
deep displeasure known to Uncle Sam, and the Pakistanis are going to happily cash in by way of this new
.
