It took 3 weeks to go from St. Petersburg to Shanghai via the Northern Sea Route. It would have taken 4 weeks using the Suez Canal. 6 weeks using the Cape Route to avoid the Houtis.

Only problem is this route can only be used for part of the year because of ice conditions.

I haven't noticed this, but apparently China deployed 3 icebreakers to Arctic last month.
