I'm speculating here but I think PLAGF is making a very good strategic choice by procuring lots of wheeled SPGs. Towed SPGs are too vulnerable to counterbattery fire while tracked SPGs, though they have superior tactical mobility due to strong offroad capability, do not have good strategic mobility. They rely on transporter trucks and rail to get to the front, while wheeled SPGs can just drive themselves at highway speeds.

For all conflicts the PLA ground forces will be involved in, wheeled SPGs will be able to deploy to much of the front.

It helps that the truck mounted wheeled SPGs have an excellent balance of cost and capability, in addition to their inherent mobility.

The PCL-181 in particular is quite a good 155mm truck mounted SPG and has enjoyed quite rapid proliferation

wheeled spgs are highly effective, ukrainians are using the french caesars to frequently bombard donetsk, and the russians can't seem to stop them, I still haven't understood where they're firing from, but it's safe to say that given their mobility, they're always on the move

Yes, 27 122m wheeled/trucked howitzers, 9 122mm MLRS, 48 HJ10 launchers, that's quite a lot of fire power from an artillery battlion.

48 HJ-10s?
Do you mean 18 HJ-10s?

Actually, form memory I understood that in terms of the ATGM component, a CABde's artillery battalion only has 9 HJ-10s (i.e.: one battery)

Sorry for the confusion, I meant 6 trucked launching vechiles with each carrying 8 HJ10s or 8 wheeled launching vechiles with each carrying 6 HJ10s, so 48 HJ10s ready to launch.
Before replaced by HJ10 system, the ATGM company in the artillery batallion had 12 ZSL02 launching vechiles, each carrying 4 HJ9s.
