Although it might not be necessary to dig the hole for the trails due to hydraulic power, I assume they still do it as a matter of procedure.

Gun crews are almost always trained on towed guns first, keeping the drill consistent allows flexibility in going from towed to SP gun (and back again).

Correct me if I’m wrong on this.
