SD Forum's Quizz of the Week Thread

This was a Ford, Twin Engine, Cab-over-Engine (COE) truck designed specifically to haul B-24 Liberator bomber parts for the World War II effort. Henry Ford was asked specifically to design trucks, including special one like this, for the war effort.

Here's some other pics of these trucks from the war years:

Here's a great article about it:

Jeff's got it!

Ford was even consulted on streamlining mass production of the B-24 bomber.

Here are two more links to information on this truck:

Ok guys. Here's one that is a little more difficult.

What is this device? Who developed it? When was it 1st deployed? Where?

Looks sorta like a bomb sight but I am inclined to go with airborne surveillance equipment. This is indeed difficult.

Thanks for trying...but nope. Incorrect.

Tomorrow around noon I will give the 1st of three hints. I will give another one every other day. If at the end of that no one gets it, to move the process along, I will reveal what it is, and then pick someone else to proceed next.

No takers? No more attempts?

Okay, here's the first of three hints:

HINT #1: The people holding the device are in a clean room. The device is from the 1970s.

Let's see if that helps. If not, around noon tomorrow I will give hint number two.

A spectograph or laser rangefinder?

look who brought it up to the moon?

dang Jeff it was hard!
Ok.

It is the first observatory ever operated from a fixed (land/planetoid based) platform outside the earth. It is a gold-plated ultraviolet camera/spectrograph invented by Dr. George Carruthers of the US Navy Research Laboratory. Apollo 16 astronauts placed the camera on the moon in 1972.

Here's a link to a story on Dr. Carruthers which mentions it and from where I got the pic:
