not as deep as I expected...

Max depth is normal, it's more or less similar on all these planes; the only exception was really YF-23, which placed it's only deep bay into hump.

The true thing to watch for is that both bays are 100% rectangular, without cut ins. Pure box volume for weapon designers.

I don’t see any room for hinges. I think the whole canopy slides backward to open.

I don't know what you guys are seeing, but i think it's gorgeous. The russians obviously value good visibility for the backseater to accept the design tradeoffs necessary, otherwise they could have just gone the way the western twoseaters like the teens or even J-20 went and have a flat canopy with considerably reduced visibility for the backseater.

No the canopy design is not similar to Su-57 it wouldn't slide open. Like I said, it opens like the Su-30 and if you look closely you can see the hinge design is very similar.


Unlike Su-57 sliding canopy which slides the entire piece back.
