2nd Kilo 0636.3 Rostov-on-Don
The conventional attack submarine B-237 Rostov-on-Don (Project 0636.3) fired Tuesday morning Kalibr of cruise missiles from the eastern Mediterranean towards Raqqa, the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State, Syria. The strikes have targeted training camps, the General Staff of the IU, warehouses for ammunition and spare parts, and concentrations of jihadists. The missiles have borrowed a ballistic trajectory just a few kilometers above sea level. Russia had earlier warned Americans of an imminent firing cruise missiles. The B-237 not conducting any patrols in the area; reminder, he made his crossing from the Northern Fleet to the Black Sea (via Kronstadt) to reach its home port: Novorossiysk.

said their commisioning "expected soon" :) I think once it happens, we'll notice, considering the current activity of Buyan-Ms ...
They can't very well send cruise missiles to Syria over Turkey. And I don't see them being sent through the Bosporus to launch their missiles from near Cyprus.

oh what I meant was the event of their commissioning would be announced at the servers FORBIN and others (including me :) follow ... Buyan-Ms are getting famous despite their just 950 tons (speaking from memory now) of displacement

Really Putin is putting on quite the show. I mean the missile strikes from the bombers and ships really are all about propaganda. They could have launched those strikes with a SU34 from there airbase at a lower cost and burden. Then there is the recent photos of the Russian Military command center looking like a scifi set. Impressive, imperial and palatial.

propaganda, is all??
Again, more message to NATO then actually useful . Real damage to ISIS and other jihadis comes from unglamorous but numerous Su-25 and Su-24 sorties . Tu-160 strikes are a show to deter other interested parties in conflict . Countries like Great Britain, France, Germany etc know now there are fully armed Russian bombers patrolling near their borders, that could theoretically strike at any moment. Therefore, they would be lot less inclined to make aggressive movements against Russian interests .

TE, after you had noticed, Mr. Putin took it to his office:

LOL

what's more interesting (comes the same TV report) is this:
2573720_1000.jpg

briefly in English:
  1. column shows assets (from the nrespective bases)
  2. column activity on November 17 (for example eight X-101 per Tu-160)
  3. ... 18
  4. ... 19
  5. ... 20
the last but one row: # of sorties
the last column: # of targets hit

I ran out of edit-time of my preceding post here (clumsy description of the table, I know) ...
  • I should've said "the last row", not column; the total number of targets during those four days is ... am drinking my early morning coffee, so 206+206+203+211 ... 826
  • the total number of sorties ... 127+126+126+143 ... 522
  • four X-555 per Tu-160 (and six of these in one "Bear" on November 20)
  • FORBIN: those Tu-22s are based in Mozdok (the row with like grey big arrows)
and now for those who might think I'm taken by this stuff: I'm more impressed by this action:
