A 4 year refurb. according to the Wiki ... I can only assume this was constrained by finances, as I'm surprised to see the missile armament (ssn19 shipwrecks?) was not replaced with something more compact and enabling a greater load out.

Does anyone have any details as to the refurbishment activities carried out? ie was it purely a refurb - addressing wear and tear? or were any upgrade activities undertaken?

There is a 2 or 3 second section in the Kuznetsov Med videos that looks like the aftermath of something launching off the starboard side. There is a shower of sparks slowly descending and some smoke but it doesn't really correlate with any systems I'm familiar with, it could be a misfire but I wanted to see what people thought..

Between 3 and 6 seconds on this clip:

This old salt thinks that was some sort of signal flare. Maybe a misfire of said flare because it is so close to the ship.

my initial thought was some sort of defensive flare/smoke screening system but much to close to the vessel surely?

since you quoted me ... I didn't translate the description I had originally found in

because I of course thought several outlets would translate (now I see I didn't even bother with posting the Russian link back then);
now I did a google search and, to my surprise, this didn't seem to be the case (??) ... I'm really unsure if I should do it, so just very briefly:
the activities started in 2011, concerned the propulsion, electricity generation, internal communications, and general systems (these I imagine as for example "the drainage, dewatering, fire safety and other systems of the vessel" from the one year old article

);
as for the missiles, I think she's gotten the Vulkans

"improved Sandboxes"

but that's my interpretation, not something from the article I quoted ... common! there's has to be a translation available in Internet
