I have wondered what a slightly longer version of the Yak-130 with a single RD-33 engine or after burning

-25 turbofan would be like as a point defense fighter. similar to the FA-50. A poor mans (in this case country) MiG-29.

It could probably do with a less buble-ie canopy, have sharper sweep and a slightly smaller tail? The single cockpit should be in between the current front / back seat to allow a usefull radar fitted in a pointy nose.
I feel such an aircraft would still be a little less then a F/A-50 and be the very low end of what makes sense as an interceptor / airspace defender for anything that is beyond illegal (drug) trafficking.

Yes the nose section could similar to what the British did with the Hawk to obtain the Hawk 200 larger nose to fit a radar.

Yes the F-16 and Yak-130 are not comparable. However, the Russian Air Force has discounted the Yak-131 (a single seat version of the Yak-130), since the yak-131 did not demonstrate a high enough level of protection for its pilot.

In my personal opinion I feel the Yak-130 will make a grate replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk. I think the YAK130 is a great little aircraft that’s cheap to buy and maintain, and it can be used in all roles trainer, light attack, recce, anti-air, anti-ship/sub, as well as being able to operate from unpaved and

.

It might not meet Russian pilot protection standards but it’s still a cheap alternative to flying higher cost aircraft during peace time operations, ideal for recce and maritime recce.

It’s also a capable light attack/anti-air/anti-ship/sub aircraft, and although it will never be as good as the higher cost aircraft it’s still cheap and capable. Syria seem to be doing alright using their Aero L-39's as attack aircraft, having only lost a 2 or 3 in 2 yrs. of conflict.

It’s also a great aircraft for defense forces or countries with a small military budget. I think some African, central and

could be potential customers for the light attack role, and anti-drug and COIN operations.

You could also make a UAV out of it. And as the yak-131 would have better aerodynamic performance and be cheaper than the Textron Scorpion.

Both aircraft are good for the Latin American air forces, but the YAK-130 is a much more beautiful aircraft

World's Largest Sub Leaves Port for Arctic War Games

The Russian nuclear-powered strategic submarine Dmitry Donskoy, touted as the largest submersible vehicle in the world, has reportedly entered the White Sea, where it is due to take part in anti-submarine drills.

A source in the Russian Northern Fleet said on Friday that the Russian Akula class nuclear ballistic missile submarine Dmitry Donskoy has left its base in the city of Severodvinsk, entering the White Sea, where it will take part in anti-submarine war games, according to the website flot.com.

Taking part in the drills are, among other vehicles, the anti-submarine ships Onega and Naryan-Mar.

Dmitry Donskoy's previous mission in the White Sea lasted three weeks and wrapped up on July 16, 2015.

The vessel, named after the Grand Duke of Moscow Dmitry Donskoy, measures 172 meters in length and has a crew of 160, making it the world's largest submarine.

In 2002, the twenty launchers for the R-39 ballistic missiles the submarine originally carried were replaced with launchers for the most advanced submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) to date, the RSM-56 Bulava. The past few years have seen a spate of successful Bulava launches from the Dmitry Donskoy.

Although she was built in 1980 as a third generation submarine, the Dmitry Donskoy is now referred to as a fourth generation submarine due to her extensive modifications.

Apart from its twenty Bulava SLBMs, the submarine is equipped with six 533mm torpedo tubes and eight Igla (Needle) anti-aircraft missile systems. The vehicle is capable of staying at sea without surfacing for about 180 days.
