However, as others have stated, the Russians have room for reform and growth. I would argue that the Russians will still face further economic decline before it starts to grow again, whether the war in Ukraine drags on or ends next year.
Room for improvement in the Russian economy:
Improve labor productivity, which is quite low;
Improve energy efficiency, which is half the level of major economies, especially after the end of the war;
Create a sustainable high-tech sector;
Create a manufacturing industry for civilian aircraft, pharmaceuticals, and microelectronics;
Improve the environment for venture capital and create a startup ecosystem, which is currently nonexistent;
All of this can be unlocked to enhance the engine of technological and entrepreneurial growth in Russia.
Not to mention that Russia, in the future, even without Europe as a market, will have the entire continent of Asia as the global economic, financial, and technological center.
