Just expressing their own artistic license. The length depicted here is not so different from the Type 075 landing helicopter dock.

I really like the island design chosen for it though, which looks to be more optimized for proper aircraft launching operations.

Why not? Part of its missions is to land marines with the cover of assault helicopters. If the opposing side also have assault helicopters, having a few fighters will turn the battle decisively to their favor. 2-5 fighter among the helicopters will greatly strengthen their hand.

that would be the job of the carrier

although USN is using their LHA as carriers to provide fixed wing aircraft basically freeing up a carrier using F35B

Not all missions involve the carrier. In the case of Taiwan invasion, for example, the carriers will be part of a task force out in the perimeter screening for subs and other ships. It is good for a mission to be self contain if possible.

Only knew of this thread (and about 076) now. Why should china build another large amphibious when it already have 075 ? better to allocate the resources to R&D in order to build better submarines (specially SSN).

Type 076 compared to Type 075 is like Type 054B compared to Type 054A. Heavier and new radar.
