There are many other nodes within China's high tech/advanced manufacturing ecosystem. Xian, Chengdu, and Wuhan are all traditional major industrial centers that have successfully made the transition to high-tech, particularly in semiconductors. Hefei has been rapidly emerging as a top research center and semiconductor hub, reaping massive benefits from hosting China's MIT and from targeted smart investment by Anhui's provincial government. Lastly, YRD's dominance in high tech is cemented by the Suzhou-Wuxi megacity, a dominant player in semis packaging, EVs, advanced manufacturing, biotech, materials, chemicals, and electronics.
No arguments there. I'm mostly talking about emerging industries like AI and robotics, and where the top companies & labs are currently emerging, not high tech. in general, which is more distributed across tier 1 and tier 2 cities and continuing to diversify regionally. Gravitational ("hub") effects are intrinsic to industrial development, but in China it is mitigated by the impact of regional planning & competition between city governments, hence there is not one Chinese Silicon Valley and major cities are constantly competing to attract the best talent & companies.

These robots don’t have proper hands though. How does it handle baggage?
They claim it's for automating container transport, but if they still need humans to baby sit the robots, it’s just gonna drive up the costs.
This project aims to automate parts of the container transfer process, including rotating containers, releasing stoppers, and the transfer itself. To automate the transfer from dollies to high-lift loaders, the initiative will sequentially tackle tasks such as operating heavy levers, pushing containers, and performing pedal-operated dolly rotations.

This is insane..

Dax Robotics just unveiled Qiji T1000 — a ton-class robot horse built to carry 1,000 kg weight.

Qiji T1000 is being positioned for heavy-load field work: security patrols, emergency rescue, construction sites, industrial logistics. It is about pushing legged robots into real heavy-duty labor — where payload, torque, terrain, and endurance actually matter. Qiji T1000 is a machine horse in the most literal sense.

This is so slow… might be faster if you walked.
