This week I had the opportunity to arrive in Singapore from rioter land - that is Hong Kong.

Sadly, I had imbibed and been implicitly convinced by the Western media that Singapore was superior in all ways to Hong Kong. To my great consternation, there turned out to be indeed some things that Hong Kong is superior in.

Ways Singapore Is Superior
  • Singapore has A LOT more space.
  • Singaporean Chinese can speak Mandarin.
  • Singaporeans can speak English.
  • Singaporeans are far more relaxed and walk at ASEAN pace, even in business districts.
  • Singapore had a shocking amount of Korean tourists.
  • Singapore is environmentally cleaner.
  • Singaporean buildings, especially the HDB's, are otherworldly clean. It's as if you're visiting a more advanced society.
  • Singapore birds are much more beautiful. I have included two pictures of a beautiful Singaporean bird.
Ways Hong Kong Is Superior
  • Hong Kong is better for tourism. Singapore doesn't have many authentic, "real" tourist sites. Its sites are mostly for families. Is this related to the PAP's campaign to increase the birth rate?
  • Hong Kong's media is far more advanced. Do Singaporean TV dramas exist? I wasn't able to find one.
  • Hong Kong's subway system is better, cleaner, and more modern. Is this because Hong Kong's MTR gets money from real estate development?
  • Hong Kong is more technologically advanced. Hong Kong's subways have TV and electronic wall ads on the sides of the tunnels. Hong Kong buses electronically tell you what stop you're on and where you are on the bus route. Singapore doesn't have this. (I therefore find it strange that Singapore has created tech unicorns - e.g. Grab - but Hong Kong hasn’t. I guess that Hong Kong separatists are too lazy - but so are Singaporeans.)
Rioter Land Is Much More Chinese
I was very sad to come to this conclusion.

But it's undeniable. In Singapore, Chinese characters seem to just be a decoration. They are in some subway names and restaurant names, but they are not used meaningfully in public.

In the land of riots, on the other hand, Chinese characters are used everywhere meaningfully. Hong Kong advertisements are mainly Chinese, with English added for flavor, and they are full of Chinese culture. Singaporean advertisements don't have Chinese.

The Hong Kong people also look much more Chinese. After taking a close look at many of the Singaporean Chinese, I've come to the conclusion that the PAP's proud 76% Chinese majority is similar to Argentina's proud 97% white majority. I think Singapore likes to import Malaysian and Indonesian Chinese - who are probably actually 1/3 Malay. Of course Hong Kong and China proper have many brown Chinese; I confirmed this by taking a walk outside in Hong Kong. I think the difference is that Hong Kong's Chinese are ~25% brown, whereas Singapore's Chinese are ~50% brown.

Singaporeans Are Uglier :(
This was the saddest discovery of all that I made in Singapore. The Western media definitely didn't tell me this!

I was shocked to discover the phenomenon of "Singapore Plus Size." I saw Singaporean after Singaporean who was wide as a small table. This obesity phenomenon was astonishingly most prevalent in the Singaporean Chinese community. It was as if some malevolent force had super-sized their bodies. I almost thought I was in the empire, except with fat white burgers replaced by fat Chinese Singaporeans. I was sad and troubled. Even in America, the Chinese keep themselves thin!

I find this very strange, since Singapore's weather is similar to Hong Kong's weather. Hong Kong is also very hot and humid, and it is uncomfortable to walk outside for long times. Yet somehow Hong Kongers are as skinny as bones.

What was most heartbreaking of all was the state of Singapore's female population. Hong Kong girls, while often race traitors, are at least pretty and wear huge amounts of make-up well. I often admire the beautiful view that they present.

Shockingly, I saw very few beautiful women in Singapore. It was as if they were missing. The number of pretty girls, who use well-done make-up and take care of their appearance, was maybe one-fifth that of Hong Kong.

Singapore also has very few couples openly dating with public displays of affection. You see young couples all over Hong Kong doing PDA. What is strange is that Hong Kong's birth rate is much lower than Singapore's. Also most Hong Kongers marry after 30.

All in all, it was very sad to see a people do this to themselves. What causes Singapore's Chinese community to destroy themselves like this?

My pet theory is that Singaporean Chinese feel racially superior at 50% - probably the real number, not the PAP's fake 76% - of the population. Therefore they don't put as much effort into taking care of their appearance. In Hong Kong, on the other hand, 92% of the population is Chinese - with the majority of the rest Indonesian/Filipino maids. Hong Kong Chinese therefore fiercely compete with each other to look attractive. For instance, Hong Kong women run a real risk of staying single if they don't present themselves well. Singaporean Chinese women, on the other hand, are in short supply and therefore don't put much effort in their appearances. (The same applies to the men.)

Then again, I might be completely wrong on this. I just walked on the street and saw a ton of ugly Hong Kongers and no pretty girls - they were all old people. So who knows!

(P.S. I truly apologize, from the bottom of my heart, if I offended our SDF Singaporean contingent! I loved Singapore - it's just that it's so sad that the pretty ladies seemed to have all disappeared.)

Well we have to remember, Hong Kong is literally China. Singapore is literally not China.

There's a Chinatown in Singapore, nobody finds that strange. But if someone called a part of Hong Kong as "Chinatown" the response would be uproarious laughter in the mocking and exasperated Cantonese way that HKers are (in?)famous for.

This was consciously done too. Singapore used to be very, very Chinese in the 1960s. They overtly changed away from that, to the degree that 20 year olds today, can't talk with their grandparents well.

Those mynahs are common pets back in China and I believe are introduced to Singapore as such, in China they remained pets while In Singapore they stopped being pets and are goddamn everywhere instead, easily more common than pigeons.

Not gonna lie, I really do sometimes feel that girls are prettier where I was from than where I currently live, but I usually don't look very hard. Not having TV ads is a good thing, the last thing any public places need is more ads, bus letting you know which stop is a good thing tho, I'm not sure why there isn't any in Singapore. The use of English as a primary language is a deliberate decision to not make any race feel excluded, unfortunately that it also inevitably led to a loss of culture and the erosion of any local entertainment/media scene. I do believe are a good number of local drama shows but I only watched them when I was children, so I can't comment on how many there are these days.

Obviously western media would give such impression, having more space and being cleaner is something that's immediately obvious and can be appreciated by everyone, while being more culturally authentic/distinct can only be appreciated by certain people.

Opportunity to work with Bonnie Glaser as China Technology Analyst. I thought to put this in the Funny Stuff thread but you never know, someone might actually be interested:

Ayo, @Patchwork_Chimera, this could be an opportunity for some extra cheese. I know you'd normally consider working with Bonnie a brutal punishment, but I also know that you've looked at an American hospital bill. That sort of horror can change a man.

I don't see "reluctant snuggling with bon bon" in the job summary or in the essential/additional duties section, so I'll have to pass. As deep as Uncle Sam may have his fist down my throat, at least I'm not expected to whore out my mental faculties to some morbillionaire lobbyist with a higher BMI than IQ, just to astroturf support for their destructive, imbecilic corruption and profiteering policy agenda.

If given the choice between going through that motorcycle crash and all the hospital crap (and medical debt) it entailed again; or choosing to fall in line with the think tankies for the $$$, resigning myself to (at best) a thoughtless, worthless existence, spent knowingly poisoning vital discourse, playing the abhorrent people-politics game to find funding we can waste on ludicrous publicity stunts and egregiously analytically-unsound """ReSeARcH""" (because it's not like that money could be put to good use or anything, right?), then putting on a smile and fellating the egos of congress critters and perennial "Research Fellows" who can't be bothered to learn the language of the burgeoning superpower whom they insist they are an "Expert" on, because, well, you see guys... they regurgitated hundreds of pages of the same masturbatory drivel that their "colleagues" shoveled into their own books, papers, and presentations (coincidentally, all of whom did so while gargling the same financier's balls), screeching about ONE WEIRD TRICK to subvert the [EVIL, GENOCIDAL, AUTHORITARIAN, FASCIST, AUTOCRATIC, TYRANNICAL, OPPRESSIVE, IMPERIALISTIC, EXPANSIONIST, UNDEMOCRATIC, ORWELLIAN, INFLAMMATORY, PROVOCATIVE, FREEDOM-HATING, <DISAGREEABLE ADJECTIVE>] ENEMY™'s supposed """agenda,""" which they so gleefully expound upon with patronizing quips and headline-grabbing Gotcha! one-liners to maximize "reach and engagement" (which, when translated from Oxygen Thief to English, means "successful attention whoreing"); and on top of it all, to not only tolerate these creatures' continued existence on this mortal plane, but to put on a straight face and pretend that, "no guys, for real, we're all definitely providing unbiased analysis with no ulterior motive! this is what integrity looks like!!! :DDD"

I'll take the broken leg any day of the week. I came issued with a spare after all.

Plus, there's the infinitesimally small chance that Season 2 of 6 figure medical debt might underflow their accounting software and make me rich!

if you can't tell, I am very sleep deprived, and I HAAAAAATE these "people"
Shall I tell Bonnie you're not interested, then? Or maybe you just apply and see if she makes you an offer?
