Awesome! We saw a 66% solar eclipse in Houston. It looked awesome!

What I did not anticipate was the temperature drop. At the height of the eclipse, we felt literally 10-15 deg cooler.
In Dallas, we got a 75% eclipse because we're a little bit further north than ya'll :). But I didn't really feel any drastic temperature drop ... weird.

In Calgary my wife reported at 80% eclipse, no temperature differnec, just a little bit darker.
In ft. McMurray where I currently am, there was no difference in light or temperature. The ecplise is barely noticeable at 30%.

Hurricane Harvey! Folk in Texas! Watch out!

It was only a tropical storm last night and is now a legitimate hurricane Cat 1 and will be expected to be Cat 3 or even higher when it makes landfall tomorrow night. It will hit San Antonio, Austin and Houston. And it will stall in the coastal areas for days. And then it will go back out to the Gulf of Mexico and then come back to Houston with even more intensity mid next week. So this looks to be very bad.

Everybody stays safe! Top off your tanks and stock up your water and food. Don't drive over water on the roads!

Dear Petty Officer xxxx

As your long and distinguished career draws to a close, I wish to take this opportunity to formally recognize the tremendous contributions you have made in the defense of your country. Those of us in the Navy who are frequently called away from our families and loved ones in the course of a military career make a very special sacrifice in the interest of freedom. It is with those thoughts in mind that I commend you on behalf of your countrymen for twenty years of faithful, steadfast, and loyal service in the United States Navy.

Your military career began on 25 August 1971 when you enlisted in the United States Navy at Cincinnati, Ohio.

After completing basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, you attended Aviation Fundamentals"P" School, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, and Aviation Mechanical Fundamentals "P" School, Naval Air Station Memphis, Tennessee. Thanks guys...I posted that because today is the anniversary of myself joining the USN and to introduce myself for any new members...it sure does bring up a lot of memories. I remember having to wait at O'Hare airport for about 4-5 hours for the bus to Great Lakes....Oh so long ago.
