QTS-11 OICW. 5.8 mm Heavy and 20 mm Air Burst.

I hope that the next upgrade of this system will take advantage of the new service rifle as carbine platform.
The original piece isn't that modular, so if the QTS-11 going to be "uograded", it need to become modular.

This alone is equivalent to redesign the thing altogether.

Then there's the various electronics to upgrade, make them compatible with the current generation of TroopNet and to take advantage of all the advancements made in this decade - fair to be told, QTS-11 is a previous decade's product.

Now, given that the new AR series has yet receive official designation (but the 208 Institute has just got commendation for their work, so it should be soon), don't expect an update/upgrade of the QTS-11 to happen anytime soon. If industry's production capacities indeed reserved 2-3 years to churn out the baseline series for the PLA, the earliest we even heard that new dig getting test trial would be mid-2020s.

Finally, this is interesting. These are allegedly images of a 20mm smart grenade after it had been fired. Could be either a practice/dummy round or a developmental round, or a round that failed to detonate? Could someone translate the Chinese on the casing?

20 填砂半备
填 means "filled with",
砂means "sand",
半 means "half",
备 means "prepared".

Not really sure what it means, dummy training round that has sand filled in it??

Not sure if it is old news, but here's what seems to be an entire Phalanx of North Korean Special Forces all equipped with what seems to be QTS-11 OICW on its 70th-anniversary parade:eek:. I‘m not fully sure if China sold them this or it's north Korean's very own locally produced ones. Somehow I doubt each of them costs 78000 if it is sold to North Korea.

The North Koreans have their own OICW program.

Note the visibility of the rear magazine; the QTS-11 is bolt action and thus the closest this could be to a QTS-11 would be via a modified variant.

Also, what's the actual dimensions on the projectile? I measure a rough ratio of 4.4x between projectile diameter and cartridge length. This implies the cartridge is 88mm long. Rough calculation implies 28mm on the propellant section, with 60mm left for the projectile itself. The K-11 grenade, in comparison, has about 66mm in the projectile.

Or possibly just mock ups. We have never seen these before or since that parade. The lower portion is clearly a AK74 but the upper body?
It looks a lot like the K11 so much so, I suspect more a dummy. It’s an old doctrine for some Armies SF units to cover themselves as enemy troops and infiltrate behind the lines for sabotage. To do this they often clone uniforms and visually modify vehicles and equipment. The DPRK is said have bought and built clones of American and South Korean small arms.
Do I have evidence of this, No I admit this. Yet it has as much potential as them launching a OICW program. All we have is photos and unless Norinco sold them the tech ( no I am not saying they did). I doubt the DPRK could cook up a airbursting OICW and field them in such numbers. It’s a highly sophisticated technological system. Fielding such should be a bragging point yet this is the DPRK who has shown an exceptionally limited technology base.
