These pictures show the rifle using the old magazine.
The rifles shown at the parade (like the high quality pic in #138) seems to use a different magazine. Still for the same ammunition I'm sure, but it seems like it's designed to be able to accommodate different mags

Combat rifles rarely sport “Smooth” hand guards. You need some texture to manipulate the weapon in wet conditions. Hence the rubbing on the hand guard of the Sig that I posted.
That said I won’t fight you on costs as being blunt I think cost savings may have been the driver here.

Just for the record, when I meant "smooth" I meant a surface, without "holes" or "grates" (which are present in m lok/key mod and rail systems respectively).
I didn't mean a literal handgaurd without any sort of texture at all -- obviously having some kind of ribbing is required -- which is present on this handguard design.
