Project 093 and 094

does anyone have any information on the current progress of the Project 093 and 094 other than the information on this website?

they are both still conducting testing, I think. They are building a third 093 (at least I think I read that somewhere). The issue with 094 is whether or not JL-2 is developed.

A little more on this:

a lot of other articles post similar numbers. Basically stating that the noise level of 094 is around 115 db, which is dropped from 160db for 092. The noise level of 093 is around 108 db, which is dropped from porbably 150db for 091.

yes, according to strategy center, two 93's are launched and a third on is being built.

they also siad the first 94 has been launched to help the sole 92.

I also posted this on CDF. Does this info seem reasonable? Does this mean that 093 which are said to be similar to Victors have a chance against US SSN's? Should 094's be quieter than 093 in theory?

I wish I could remember where I read it. But I've read the first 093 has already been out on it's first sea trials. It had a Chinese language name. Wish I could remember.

@maddogy4645 - It's hard to say. I heard rumours also that it was at Victor III levels in quieting and sensor performance. Very respectable IMO. I believe it would have somewhat of a chance against an LA class SSN. In undersea warfare, a 093 crew could use it's environment to it's advantage. LA Class subs will definitely outclass 093 if 093 is based on these Victor specs. Especially on quieting, sensor, training, and support. But I wouldn't say it's "impossible" for a 093 to have a fighting chance. There are just too many variables to consider.

might as well throw my two cents in

the thing you need to worry about is that nuclear reactor.

many countries have problems building them and the only really sucessful country is the US.

Maybe with the doubling of chinas nuclear powerplants by 2010 we will see a better nuclear reactor for the 093

china had alot of problems with the reactors. russian assistance greatly aided it. believe it or not, russian nuclear experience can be just as valuable as the u.s's. just make sure the russians arnt the ones actually making the reactor...

The Russians had some really interesting reactors tested, aand the one on onboard the Alpha's was also quite an interesting one.

093 against LA? I don't think the 093 would be on the winning end, but as Sea Dog said, there are to many unknowns. If the 093 is operated by an experienced crew and is fighting in homewaters it could probably beat a LA-class boat. The Seawolf and Virgina is way in front of the LA when it comes to both silencing and sensors, so I wouldn't recommend trying to pick a fight with one of those...

a seawolf enters a chineses harbor and the crew intantly dies of pollution.
while chinas nuclear submarines are inferiror to american counterparts, they will be operating near home water, under the protection of surface ships, recon, fighter/bombers, and ground support. a u.s sub will be far from any form of base, supplies, or support group.

The seawolf is basicly a upgraded LA class submarine which has a small lead over the LA in all areas. the US navy was planng to produce these as replacements for the LA but at the cost of three LA class it was turned down and only three(?) ships were built.

The viginia is a new submarine with all the lessons learnt in the Seaworlf. It is not as capable though
