More on a "certain model" of VCE engine. It seems to have asymmetric exhaust and has an intermediate compressor stage with two stages and a single stage fan which could possibly be correlated to the geared fan VCE patent posted by @00CuriousObserver in this thread earlier given that AFAIK I can only spot two spools in the diagram.

Edit: Paper is from AECC Shenyang if anyone is wondering

Instead of the nozzle being asymmetrical I think it's just the diagram showing the different convergent-divergent settings.

these are nickel based superalloys. still widely used in modern turbofan but industry slowly shifting on ceramics blades which is far more superior and complex to manufacture.

Patent applications on "An Self-Adaptive Control System for a Variable-Cycle Engine" and "A Method for Controlling the Main Fuel Supply in a Variable-Cycle Engine", filed within the first two months of 2026 by AECC Shenyang. Posted by @大麦哲伦的云 on Weibo.

Take with a mountain of salt right now but I’ve read some reasonably reliable rumors that VCE progress is ahead of the schedule. Can’t wait till TWZ catches wind of this a couple of years down the road :).

Specifically it boils down to whether J-36 will even use WS-15 as an interim when it LRIPs.
My source is accurate!
