sure you can access youtube/ facebook etc from browser, but avg consumer alot time prefer app, unless its very simple to install, otherwise they probably will not buy it. Eu/western country has more $$, they have more choice. Huawei has to be able to offer something other phones dont have or can't compete with, either hardware or software or both, most phone these days has about the same performance.

does huawei has something similar to Siri or google map? at least on par of these two apps. event if they have good map apps, what happen if US doesn't allow huawei to use their GPS, does BeiDou has world coverage?
I'm not talking about just using the browser, as long as you have an android compatible OS you'll be able to install and use existing apps for facebook/youtube/google maps. This is regardless of google certification.

My previous post missed your last question: you can't ban a certain device from using GPS, GPS satellites only broadcast signals, they don't receive or authenticate anything from client devices. You can only shut down GPS services to a certain area, so for example if the US doesn't want huawei phones to use GPS in Europe, it'd have to shut down GPS signal for the entire European continent, rendering every civilian GPS device in Europe useless, regardless of brand or make. Obviously that's unfeasible.

With Trump .. I wouldn't be surprised if he would ban the use GPS for certain countries

But a few countries have anticipated that the US might do that in the future .. Russia has GLONASS which is already global. China is almost global with Beidou 3 (already cover most of earth area now), will be totally global this year or next year. EU has Galileo which will be global in 2020 or 2021, a bit later than Beidou 3

The US has no longer a monopoly in satellite navigation system

HELP ON PATENTS PLEASE:

Patents are types of IP on products both intangible and tangible that require permission for others who wish to produce such products for commercial to obtain formal permission from the holder of the patent to legally produce, right? Unlike trade secrets patents have expiration periods.

Let's take a few products like ball bearings, automobile fuel injection systems, and semiconductor UV lithographic equipment. If I have never made the latest of each of these types that another entity has recently obtained a patent for, but using my financial resources I obtain the equipment and set up the facilities to make them. And then using my knowledge of material science and engineering, along with trial and error, I then produce the above listed items of quality comparable to those that have been patented, and trials have proven that they are adequately functional and then advertise my products for sale, have I violated IP on the basis of great similarity to the ones that have been patented?

The best way for Huawei to counter Trump is to make its OS and App Store open sourced. Not fake open sourced like Android, but true open source. There are many ways to do this, so I don’t see the need in hashing out those scenarios.

This move would massively help to undermine any more fake news about spying, while also being incredibly attractive to content creators.

You need to remember that the US ban on Huawei will hit many app makers just as hard, if not more so, than hardware makers everyone has been focusing on.

With Android apps, there is minimal to zero additional work or cost for add designers to make it available on Huawei’s App Store in addition to Google’s.

If America wants to play hardball and somehow force people to choose, well, as with 5G, the EU becomes the kingmaker, and I see the EU siding with China if Huawei can offer credible assurances that its OS and App Store cannot be abused as America is currently doing with Google.

The Chinese smartphone vendors need to band together on their own OS platform like this and make it open.
At the very least there should be an open source application platform standard. You would have a standard way to connect to shops instead of being stuck in a single shop.

In fact there were once attempts in the EU to sue both Apple and Google for their lock-in with their app stores.
